You still have your grill blocked! you must have the scan gauge then because I was too scared to keep it blocked or half blocked for the summer. I don't have the scan gauge.
I thought of this too, and asked here on PC. A senior member was nice enough to point out half as much gas = twice as many trips to the gas station, therefore canceling out any reduction of heavy weight benefit. They also stated, that little amount of weight saved would not be enough to make a noticeable MPG difference. I now fill all the way up. .
Get on the freeway, set the cruise to 50 MPH and you will get 55 MPG at least. If you don't, there is something wrong with your car.
You will also get a lot of P.O.'d drivers behind you (if your driving 50 on a freeway), especially semi trucks that try to stay in the right lane. .
I totally agree and found that out in just a few days of owning a prius. No brainer way to get 45+ easy at any speed let alone 55 mph.
This is not about how you drive, it is about what the car will do. There are plenty of times where you can go 50 MPH without making people "mad", and other times when it is not wise to do so. Either way, if you do 50 MPH when it is reasonable, you will get 55MPG or better during that time. I would also say that you can go 60-65 all the time, and nobody can have a justified complaint against that.
Most drivers behind me are not "P.O.'D" driving slower in the right hand lane on the HWY. Maybe they are all watching TV as suggested in this thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/48236-morning-tv-my-mfd-during-commute-work.html When you have such entertainment, traffic don't matter:mod:
Cruise Control? If MY first post flatly contradicted those who've driven their Pri over 700 miles on a 10 gallon tank of gas numerous times, well I'd be waiting for the hammer to fall In fact john, in this same thread, points out that fact, saying if you're on the freeway doing 62mph ... going up a tiny grade, keep your pedal foot stationary, and don't worry if your speed drops a bit. That will help mpg. Your cruise control will waste fuel, in order to maintain your speed. You ARE on point saying to glide whenever possible, but you can't do that w/ the CC running.
