I know that this subject has been discussed before, but after doing several searches I found very little to help me make a decision in buying one. I have quite a few links to different Backup Alarms, and there is a BIG difference in the price for the alarms. Alarms with two sensors, four sensors, eight sensors. Alarms with only a small speaker in the back of the car. Alarms that mount on the rear view mirror. Alarms with a display that mounts on the dash. Alarms with sensors that are mounted thru holes drilled in the bumper. Alarms with sensors that mount on the license plate. You get the idea. Have any of you installed one on your Prii, and if so do you like the one you purchased? If so could you provide a link to the site? PM me if you want. Thanks, Charlie
This is just a bump as I'm thinking of adding a backup sensor. I've seen the ones at Sigma Automotive and Reverse Backing Systems, and I was curious if anyone has installed any. My wife's Windstar has it and I think it would be handy, even if it wasn't a backup camera.
I bought it from eBay. This guy has a great deal (compared with SigmaAuto). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BACKUP-REVE...1QQcmdZViewItem Great quality product. Sensors are sensitive. It comes with a monitor and a drill bit. All for $49+S&H. http://us.a1.yahoofs.com/users/41aa08d8ze4...h45ghDBdE8ztkHQ Sorry, no photo of sensors on bumper. Installation is easy. Routing wire involves removing some trims and panels. BTW, the color of the display matches beautifully with Tideland Silver... I once bought from a "hk-plus" guy (for my Odyssey), and the stuff was not as great. Your choice. <_<
I have a capacitive alarm for my Prius. Forget where I got it. Anyway it goes in with no holes, Just al foil tape across the back of the bumper, which I got in without dismantling the bumper. It works pretty good, but short range. You get three levels of beep, but first one is at about 1 foot to 4 inches depending on the object. Also, it beeps over nothing some in the rain. Still useful but I'm sure the sonar ones are more accurate.
Thanks for the information. Are you happy with it? Did you paint the sensors? I suppose you put the display over the MFD, it seems that it would fit there well.
