I've got a prius that has bluetooth but doesn't have gps. Does anyone know, is it even possible to have my blackberry screen also show up on the display in the car - it would be nice when using google maps, the gps function, on the phone. Thanks.
Not going to happen. Bluetooth has specs (profiles) for very specific functions. Passing GPS data may be one of them, but usually done in reverse (External BT GPS for the Blackberry). Even if the phone could send GPS coordinates, the car wouldn't understand them w/o having it's own maps built in. What you're thinking, however, is "magically" beaming the video display from your phone to the car. That's not going to happen. Bluetooth doesn't offer the support or bandwidth for this, nor does our Prius support receiving video in the fashion you're thinking. You'll have to endure the small screen or pop for a Garmin or Tom Tom of sorts if you want something larger. Of course, nothing's impossible, if you're an EE, you could endeavor to do such a task, but the time and materials required to get it right would far exceed what it'd take to just go buy something that better suits your needs.
Does your Blackberry have a video output? If your cell phone has a composite video out, it is possible. I got a new cell phone several weeks ago that has a video output and have been using it to display Google Maps on the MFD. You will have to either hack into your backup camera signal or purchase a Lockpick to get the video into the MFD.
Looks like I'm not the first to do this: http://priuschat.com/forums/audio-electronics/40102-google-maps-mobile-prius-lcd.html
AFAIK, BT has no profile to send video between parties. Only audio. What b11101100 mentioned is probably the only way, and a very cool one!
