My wife was afraid when we bought our Gen 2 in November 2008 and insisted that we take out the extended maintenance agreement.
I never had to take the car back to the dealer except for recalls and I did all the maintenance on it myself. So ten years go by and we found a left over 2016 four at the dealer and she fell in love with it but while we were dealing on it I found out the dealer had two Prius Prime for sale and I mentioned it to her we should get that instead. She had the same attitude and said she would like to wait until they prove themselves to be dependable. I backed down but still wish I had the Prime. I told her our next car will be electric.
I think her attitude is common among people, they feel comfortable with what they know.
