C1253/138 After Brand New Actuator

    For now, I added a small shim of a thin bit of plastic to increase the friction hold on the connector. Ideally, I would want to go get another S10 connector and de-pin and re-pin to move all the wires over because and splice work would be kind of iffy there. There's about 2 dozen wires, give or take, and even if I had good splices, the additional diameter for those would start to become a problem pretty quickly!

    It's certainly lasted longer than it has before, so I think I'm ready to move on to the other stuff that the car needs. Next stop: trying to figure out how to get the smart key to work!

    Yeah, that's too many wires to splice. Sometimes it is possible to get a zip tie around the back of the connector and then under a flange on the socket, but not often if the socket is on the face of a box-like module. I think I know what you mean about the shim. Be careful with that, the plastic is old, likely why it broke in the first place, and too much pressure can cause it to crack.

    Personally, I don't see the attraction of systems like SKS. I like having to put the fob in the slot, so I know where it is. I don't want cars locking and unlocking automatically - only when I press a button for those actions.

    They don't. You have to touch the back of the door handle to unlock it, and press the black square lock button to lock it. For both actions, the fob needs to be within 1 to 1.5 metres of the receiver).

    Your other point is valid.

    The automatic unlocking I referred to is the next level past SKS and goes by names like "Passive Keyless Entry". Some SUVs take it a "step further" (bad pun) and if a foot is placed under the rear of the car the hatch opens, with no physical touch between the driver and the car required.
