...and an infrastructure already exists for CHG/Propane, which we have plenty of, that could more easily and cheaply expanded. Why use natural gas to "make" hydrogen?

Sure but the last time I was in that situation, the driver was cursing out the prius phv driver in front of us for going too slow. He knows I own a prius, so wasn't sure if it was what he normally does, a joke, or an insult.;) HOT lanes and fcv lanes are ways to tax everyone to build roads but researve them for the rich. Government for the corporations or the billionairs. I am not sad phevs are losing their privilege,

The reason to use natural gas to make hydrogen, is that is the least expensive way to make hydrogen. You can make it from coal, oil, lemonade, human feces, electricity, bull s%it, your mom, etc, but these all cost more.

For long haul trucking lng, methanol (can be made from hydrogen), Liquid or compressed hydrogen makes no sense there as the density is so low the trucks would need huge tanks.

Why use hydrogen for fork lifts? It makes perfect sense. Higher utilization than battery, and you can't burn gasoline indoors. For electric drones, fuel cells also make sense for longer flight time.

Why hydrogen for a midsize car like the mirai or clarity? You have to ask Mary Nichols, she is the main force in the US. upload_2015-12-24_10-3-41.jpeg
Or ask the govenator. I haven't heard a good reason, but lots of governments seem to want it.

Yep about 27% is made from natural gas, including over 90% of the cycling resources in the US. The share of natural gas and wind have been growing fastest, while coal declines.
