    First of all.....
Californians have a super majority in their legislature and they run the state government.
If their BEV mandate gets killed, then blaming it on the 4 or 5 Republicans that are still living in that state is 'slightly disingenuous.'

    @ Kamala:
She might have a tough time winning, even in California.....for Governor.
This is a little tough for Norms to understand, but there are a lot of people that will hold their nose and vote for her to be a US Senator in order to keep a one of those three or four Californian Republicans from being a US Senator, since a US Senator is a more influential seat than a Governor in a state with a supermajority legislature.

    Remember......
Kamala has never won an election where there was a credible opponent.
    Ever.
Frankly, the RNC would be DELIGHTED if she would run again - especially since Trump will have been termed out - but EVEN THE DNC is not that stupid.

there are too many people in both parties i suspect, who don't care about the end game as much as their own power base

Do you have a Labor type party over there, sort of left of centre, it seems there is only centre right and far right to choose from ..... We have had a big move towards Independents in the Senate over here, and even some in the house of reps, forcing the winning party to play nice or they get nothing through both houses ......

Certainly been a big wake up call over here, we don't want a govt system like you have, so if they try for another referendum to push for a Republic, it will be a long way in the future .... the last one26 yrs ago and was defeated, mostly because the Prime Minster at the time wanted it set up so he would automatically become the President .... He was that unpopular that he even lost his seat in the heart land of the Liberal Party, so he not only lost his spot as Prime Minister, he didn't even win a seat in parliament .... from Prime Minster to unemployed, that's gotta hurt bad ;)

Democrats are supposed to be pro labor, but it has become convoluted over time.
And it’s not easy, you are sometimes walking a fine line.
For instance, Joe Biden was promoting electric vehicles, but then he had to stand with the auto workers union who are against them.
That’s why they call it politics, you’re navigating a minefield.
We don’t really have anyone slightly left or right of center.
Everyone is far out on both sides.
Some will argue that, but they are also far out and don’t realize it, or are not being honest

Democrats are a center party. Look at what the party has done when in power. Not what a few members say or what others claim about them. For example, it was the Democrats that took the public option out of the ACA. They didn't even try to revoke the business tax cuts put in under Trump's term.

But you have to look at the whole package.
Maybe I’m further right than I realize

Paywalled, but it is an opinion piece, which will be a skewed view by its nature. That's before considering the leanings of the author.

As I said, you can't go by what the outspoken members say, or what is said about them, when considering the leaning of the party as a whole. AOC's group is one of the smallest wings of the party. She herself was blocked from a committee chair just a few months ago.

Wikipedia and others call the Democratic Party center left, but this side discussion started about comparisons to parties in other first world democracies. Compared to them, the US is more right leaning.

Maybe it's time a left leaning party made a bid for the job. I doubt any thinking American will vote Republican Party for quite a while, we did have a Democrat party for a while, trying position themselves between Labour and Liberal, but they didn't last all that long ..... they mostly received protest votes. We have a Greens Party, they received the protest vote for a while, now we have the Teal Independents, so labelled because their campaign colours were Teal, but they don't really vote as block, but will support each others causes if they can sell it to their constituents .... ya gotta keep them happy or you become a one win wonder .....
We do have far left parties and even further right parties than the Liberals, but they never get enough votes to form enough for a back yard BBQ, so never enough for a proper party ;) .....

We have had a few minority govts, where the rely on support from another party, but they are rarely successful for more than a single term.

We do have a strict rule regarding political donations, who is donating must be made public, so corporate donations often balance out between each major party.

There has been talk for a while now, that all political donations must go into a central fund, from there, each party based on the number of seats they are contesting, get dished out the agreed amount per candidate, anything left goes into general revenue. Rules regarding pooling the money still need to be thrashed out, but all political expenses must be made public, to ensure they are all playing by the rules.

Personally, I think it would be a good thing, it would reduce the "being drowned by political crap" as an election approach, and stopping the party with the most money winning and owing favours to their political donors, no one knows just whose money went where, so no buying your chosen political party or representative .....

Is left in several countries of Europe.
    Far left in the US.
    And not a Democrat.

He caucuses with Dems since they are closest to his views of the two major parties. He ran as a Dem for President to avoid splitting the vote in the general election, as he spelled out in his announcement to run.

AOC on others of her ilk would be far left, but they aren't a big part of the party. "This is a fairly small bloc in terms of Democratic elected officials — I don’t think any of the current Democratic governors or senators fit into this group." - The Six Wings Of The Democratic Party | FiveThirtyEight

That article is dated. Maybe more far left members have gained such offices. Wikipedia does a three faction grouping. The left and moderate wing are about equal in the House, but there is a tiny portion of conservatives pulling the party more center in numbers
