thanks ken, i think the software is designed to provide possibility of heat when front defrost button is pressed. i would stil like to see someone else try 34Hupp's method.
lensovet, Temp Control can be lowered to LO within the first 10 seconds of starting the PIP and the ICE won't start. You should modify your FAQ below. How can I defog the windshield without engaging ICE?Set the temperature to LO, set the vents to foot+windshield, and turn on the fan. Do NOT press the front defogger button. If you follow this procedure, engine will NOT come on. NOTE! you must do this before turning the car on or within the first 10 seconds of starting the PIP. That is, if after the 10 seconds, you turn on the fan and your temperature is initially 70 and then you hold down the "lower temperature" button until you get to LO, you blew it and the ICE will kick on anyway. To avoid this, before starting the car, press the POWER button twice without pressing on the brake pedal, turn on the fan, and lower the temperature to LO. Then, press OFF and start the car as usual.
Hi lensovet, I just may stop by the dealer and see if that is a possibility. Yes I agree, Sacto is listed as a semi arid desert. Except for the last 2-3 weeks. One day, there was so much moisture on the inside that even wiping it up with a micro-fiber cloth did no good, it only spread the moisture. I put it down to a tremendous rainfall and unusual differences in the outside and the inside of the glass. My usual pattern is to go to the Gym at around 0700, so all of the excess moistures occur at that time ( for me ). Often it clouds up just before my destination, I assume that's caused by exhalation. I always attempt to have some sort of air moving in the car, short of the defrost button.
Yeh, I miss all that snow out in the street. Many people in this part of the country walk around in shorts all the time. Have you noticed the daylight is increasing?
Hi again, I have followed this procedure to the letter. On most cold days the engine eventually comes on, even sometimes at the end of my very short trip, 2.5 miles. I suspect when the weather returns to 50s and 60s this will not be a problem. I think you are upstate, so I don't know how you are escaping this problem. ?
Re: ice at the end of your trip, is it possible this is caused by excess regen instead of climate control?
No, because I hardly ever start out with a full charge, that I do at the Gym. Generally the reading is 4-8 miles.
not yet, but january usually brings more light when it's not overcast. february brings florida, God willing, and i'll be in shorts and t-shirts!
On 12/21 the Daylight was 8 hours and 59 minutes. Now increasing 1 minute each day. Now 9 hours and 3 minutes. WOW !!!
I always look at the beginning of Summer as 21/22 Dec and 21/22 June as the beginning of winter. If the Govt. would quit screwing around with the clock we could all get used to it.
The annual migration of the snow bunnies, I remember it well. First time I did it, I was 10, NYC TO Miami. My first self tree picked Orange.
I followed this procedure this morning, it worked well. To the Gym. On the way home, almost immediately, the engine came on. No change in settings. why? I think the car got colder. Poor thing!
Drove up to Lincoln today to fly down to Half Moon Bay for a $100 Hamburger. And I just drove conservatively and didn't worry about the engine. The main thing, I was warm and comfortable. I have observed that my overall mpg continues to climb on trip A, I am up to 79 mpg, so why worry, its Winter in Sacto.
Today at 23 degF I pressed the POWER button twice without pressing on the brake pedal, turned on the FRONT defog button, and lowered the temperature to LO. Then, pressed POWER to turn it off. When I re-started the PIP the ICE started. Oh Well. I turned off the FRONT defog button and stopped the PIP. I re-started the PIP, waited over 10 seconds, pressed the FRONT defog button and the ICE started. OK, No way around it !!! I turned off the FRONT button and stopped the PIP. I re-started the PIP, had the Temp Control at LO and Fan speed low and the ICE stayed off. The ICE didn't start the next 10 minutes, even when driving up to 61 mph. I don't have any long downhill regen. After a 3 mile highway span, and back to 55 mph the ICE stopped and stayed off, until I ran out of battery. I guess it works as it's suppose to.
thanks ken, looks like the front defrost button is a no go? i don't have any trouble defogging with the floor/windscreen, but, it would be nice not to have it on the feet.
