"Other Hybrid" under your vehicle info threw me. You ARE referring to a new PiP, correct? Welcome to the forum.:)

bisco, I kinda figured the in car charger was the bottleneck. I've been researching evse's to try to make some sense of how to wire op for the future. There is way more to this charging thing then meets the eye.
I want to put some Xguages to work too. I want to match charging capacity to ambient temp
to find the sweet spot of the new pack before it gets too warm and if the slower charge rates and cooler/ but not cold temps keep the pack fan from running full time while charging.
Anyone else ever notice the charger reset to 0.0kw in the middle of a charge then resume at normal charge rate? It happened twice yesterday after the a/c shut off when running the a/c while charging. I also saw the charge rate drop from 1.9kw to .3kw while running the a/c with ambient temps around 85 degrees in full sun.
Yesterday was tough, I made a couple of mistakes. Wrong time to drive, wrong place to charge, ICE switching on, than tested the power range in frustration, etc.
I'm sure you all know the drill. bilbo the other is 06 hch.
retired, bisco does do the good job doesn't he. Although it looks to me like you are all ev or forget about it.. I'll have to see if I can hunt down some of your 99mpg+ secrets.

if you search priuskitty's threads, i'm pretty sure she did some terrific graphing of charging rates. there is definitely more than meets the eye.

Ha! I saw 12.5 the other day.

It was after quite a bit of EV driving with less than usual HV. The system was clearly just adjusting the estimate based on recent activity. Actual range didn't change; nonetheless, it was still nice to see.

reminds me of Roy Orbison and his merry band of past students:) a black and white night - documentary

Does winter driving really drop the estimate that much?

When I got mine a month ago it showed 12.something for around a week, then jumped to 14.2 after a few all ev runs. Yesterday, I made a loop to three chargers then back home. The ICE came on once ( I must have hit the power zone going uphill with 3 mi ev range left ). It was around 90 degrees so when I got home I let the pack cool for a few hours then ran the a/c twice at the beginning of the charge and the estimate jumped from 14.7 to 16.1
When I first read this I was hoping the gauge was closer to { actual miles by Don Henley} but as I see more how the gauges work it starts to make sense that it would have to be an estimate. I'm imagining the list of variables that are calculated to get it.

My low Est. in winter was 8.3 ev. It slowly has been increasing this summer, the est. today is 17.4 ev. many trips in last couple weeks from 17-19 all ev with a few 20+ all ev.
It has taken longer this year to come up , I think it was all the cooler weather with a lot of rain.
Temps the last couple of weeks mid 80's and humid, 80% to 95%.

My driving pattern changes winter to summer, way less winter driving if I can help it, so a lot of short ev trips.
Summer time, extra trips just for fun, new coffee places to enjoy, different lunch stops ect. so more ev miles.:)

I'm still trying to make it between chargers. The closest charger to me is 12.5 mi and the first one I made in ev There are serveral others about 14 mi away that i have trouble getting to in ev unless I exit the highway and run the backroads. But even taking the backroads it's still really close sometimes.
Today I charged up at my first stop 12.5 mi away from home and had 1.8 ev left. After charging to 16.0 ev I headed across town, not knowing my exact route, for charger two. I didn't think I was going to make it with 8 ev mi left, but when I got to the charger at 14.5 mi from charger 1, I had 3 ev mi left.
After charging again to 16.0 ev at charger 2 I headed home and took the highway at 60 mph and used up all ev 1 mi from home on the 14.5 mi trip.

I'd been coasting downhill in n on any hills I thought would keep me at normal mph and I thought I was so far ahead
by the time I got to the highway, I thought I'd take the highway and get home faster. Oh well, live and learn.

i find i don't learn much except on routes i repeat over and over. anything new, and there's always a curveball.

Yep! You learn how to time things when always take the same route, number of lights, stop signs, yields, turning lanes, when most cars take rights or lefts, the list kind of goes on and on. Easier to keep your car rolling along at a constant speed, better for mpg!:)

There is a deep ravine where the river used to flow a mill yrs ago or so that I have to go across sometimes. I can't avoid it with several chargers being on the other side and the cars ev range.
I'm also right on the bank of the where the river now flows and I have uphill whenever I start from home. How much uphill depends on which way I turn exiting the subdivision. If I turn right I go downhill about 3 miles but if I turn left I continue uphill for 3 or 4 more mi. It's gonna take me a while figure out which way to go and how to drive it ev either way.

bisco, I can keep my eye on the curveball it's those damned sinkers getting under my swing when I'm trying to pull it.
retired, I'll keep the slow steady flow in mind and try to avoid the sinker hole of that ole river bed.

I've never seen a noticeable difference, but if the car follows the laws of physics, any energy running the air-conditioner, and not driving the car instead, must be decreasing mileage to some degree.
