I have a 2006 Prius with roughly 119,900 miles on it. I have noticed in recent months that I am having to refuel more often, and that my mileage has dropped to about 40 MPG, when before it was close to 45. Any ideas why this is happening?
welcome to priuschat! could be your 12 volt battery. but at 200k, it could be a lot of things. what major service have you done to the vehicle?
Actually I mis-read the mileage, it's closer to 119,900, my bad. And as far as the service goes, it's never had the hybrid battery replaced, the other battery was replaced after a fender-bender a couple years ago, and its had the water pumps changed a couple of times. As far as I can recall it hasn't had much else done aside from routine stuff.
you could probably use new plugs. maybe injector cleaning, might need throttle body cleaning. check your maintenance manual for 120k service. check your oil level. start with the easy stuff.
I have an 08 Prius with 135k miles that has had routine maintenance done as well, and has also had the water pump replaced, and I've seen a precipitous drop in mpg in the past month from 58 to 48. Isn't there a link to the Toyota site that explains the service intervals? If any knows it, could you please paste below? Thanks!
