Any idea what it would take to convert the engine to run on either straight gasoline or an E-85 fuel? There are a growing number of stations in the DC area with the fuel which is cheaper. I would rather pay a farmer in the US to grow my fuel than to send money overseas.
David Blum sayz its easy, no idea if thats true or not Welcome to Alcohol Can Be a Gas! | Permaculture & Alcohol Can Be A Gas
Any idea what it would take to convert the engine to run on either straight gasoline or an E-85 fuel? Does not a prius already run on gasoline Do you really save money running E85? A GMC Yuhon E85 avgs 12 mpg, gas 16 mpg, Hybrid 21 mpg And do you know the US imports more oil from Canada then overseas
I hate to say it, but I think I'd rather import gas from Saudi Arabia than to use ethanol. I think it is a big crock of @#$!.
We have discussed this at length. A quick search finds these threads: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...rger-injectors-e85.html?highlight=e85+ethanol http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...conversion-e85-ethanol.html?highlight=ethanol All in all, E85 is unlikely to produce any practical benefit in the Prius (which is neither a high-compression or forced-induction situation where ethanol shows the most benefit).
Good news: The Deepwater Horizon probably did not kill that much marine life - knock on wood. Bad news: the Dead Zone off southern Louisana already killed lots of the fish and shrimp due to the fertilizer - some of it for ethanol crops. Dead zones are increasing globally.
E85 is a load of crap. Im pretty sure i read somewhere that E85 uses as much regular gasoline as its supposed to save. Actually it doesn't save anything. Ethanol will always have lower energy than regular gas, so you'll get lower gas mileage using an E85 gas in an E85 ready engine. Plus what do you think farmers use when they harvest ALL that corn? Those tractors aren't hybrids buddy. Those fertilizers? The cost to transport all that corn? Yeah, E85 is a load of crap and a scam by the government to boost our corn industry, and increase global food prices too.
