I know the feeling, Bob, but we keep on conserving because it's the right thing to do. Anyway, I read somewhere (Business Week probably) where human-generated pollution starts to go away immediately when we're not consuming. That suggests that our pollution isn't a permanent contribution to the environment. Just as smokers develop disease from smoking continuously, so does the human race develop a chronic health hazard by polluting continuously. As the price of fuel goes up, a lot of people will begin to pollute less. Hit 'em in their pocketbooks and they stop behaving badly. We have to keep in mind that the majority of people rarely look up enough to see past their noses. Prius owners are helping them to see a bit further.
