New Ford Bio-Plastic
Source: Ford Using Tequila Producer Jose Cuervo’s Agave Plants to Meet Sustainability Goals
Ford Motor Co. is tapping into tequila producer Jose Cuervo’s discarded agave plant fibers for lightweighting and sustainability goals.
Agave plants, used in tequila production, take at least seven years to mature. The fibers are typically used as compost or in papermaking. Ford is working with Jose Cuervo on another goal: to turn discarded agave plant fibers into bioplastic parts for Ford vehicles.
. . .
The work with Jose Cuervo is in the research stage and there’s no timeline for bioplastic production, Ford said.
Hummm, almost quitting time. I'll help ...

54.5 mpg target is off the table, U.S. regulators say
Title pretty much says it. Low gas prices with increased popularity of trucks and crossovers is sited for a new target of 50 to 53 mpg in the draft Technical Assessment Report from the EPA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and California Air Resources Board.
There is 60 days for the public to comment one it.Trollbait Jul 19, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 5,215 Likes: 0 Replies: 42 -

FCA Pacifica Plugin Hybrid Updates...
Well, from my contact who recently saw the Pacifica Hybrid (which is exciting in my world...maybe until you hear this information).
- 8 seat option confirmed.
- Moonroof option unknown at the moment.
- There is a delay...looking at a January release now.
- There will be a trim worth $55k (lol Wth!) - he's not sure what trim.
- The Pacifica Plugin Hybrid was seen but not driven, no one got to drive it.
Ok...so I have a huge problem with the markup. If the base model is $30k, and there's a ton of battery power, doesn't it make sense to raise it $10-$15k?
In an ideal world the incentives should bring it down close to the base model of a non plugin (hybrid) version.
IE, hopefully the Prime is only $1-2k above the Prius price after incentives.
$55k is like...uhh $20k short of a Tesla? I sure hope it won't be that price.inferno Jul 15, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 3,048 Likes: 0 Replies: 15 -

Vt and MA pass break window's to release animal laws
So, VT and Ma have passed laws making it legal to break the windows of any car containing an animal in danger, well, we now have two prii in the driveway so that summers we can travel with the dogs, the prii are great, just leave them on with the air conditioning running and the dogs are safe and comfortable, but now some wingnut is going to be a problem sooner than later, I'm suggesting priuschat offer window stickers for sale that are rather professional looking and state that the animals are safe, and the car is running, "don't harm the car" -
Used electric cars sell quickly even as new sales remain flat
Interesting that there's a good secondary market for used plug-in vehicles. Though the article mentions a lot of it is in California due to the HOV sticker, folks from other parts of the country are also finding out for the first time that plug-ins aren't so weird and scary.
I know I kind of balked initially at buying a Chevy Volt new. But used, they're in the econocar territory ($14-18k), and for the most part drive much better than said econocars.
So while the high depreciation is screwing over the first owner, like any other car essentially, it's great for the second owner who can get a mostly gently used one for a fraction of the cost while they were new.

Misleading Headline
Hybrid and electric cars were the rage when gas prices where high. The grandfather of the category has been the Toyota (NYSE: TM) which recently fell on very hard times. Sales of the hybrid were off 26.7% to 11,027 in June and 25.2% to 67,405 for the first six months. Incentives on the Pruis have dropped to .9% for 72 months.
The Prius first came off the production line in 1997. Toyota has sold 3.7 million worldwide since then. Recently sales have been challenged by an army of other hybrids and the new found attraction of all electric cars like the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3 which will be priced at $35,000 before government incentives, that could be several thousands of dollars more. That will bring the car to about the same price level as a well-outfitted Prius. Granted, the Tesla will not be available until 2017, but the company has several hundred thousands of orders.
Virtually every large global manufacturer has one or more hybrid models. This was not the case when the...charlesinoc Jul 4, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 5,212 Likes: 0 Replies: 43 -
