California removes PHEV Green HOV Sticker Limit
Eligible Vehicles - Single Occupant Carpool Lane Use Stickers
Per SB-838, and effective as of September 13, 2016, the Green Clean Air Vehicle Decal limit imposed by AB 95 has been removed.
Effective immediately, CA has removed the PHEV green HOV sticker limit for PiP, Prime, Volt, etc.
It was confusing because there were two Bills. The winning Bill was SB 838 and it simply removes the PHEV green sticker limit (formerly 85000 limit). In other words, both BEV and PHEV now enjoy equal unlimited numbers of HOV access stickers.
Left unanswered is the longer term future of CA's green and white HOV sticker programs, both of which are slated to end in early 2019 (correct me if wrong).
It's anybody's guess what happens in the next legislative session...
But my guess, it seems obvious that there will a serious effort to extend the plug-in HOV access past 2019. Perhaps a 3 to 5 year limit will be placed on... -

Whilst not super impressive given the fact that they have whooping great big batteries (But also more weight to pull too), buses often only do travel locally, and have dedicated stations for them to charge at, at night time. It could of course mean that well the buses can run on all electric in the day, and just charge in their bus stations overnight
Though I reckon fare prices won't really go down, because well it does cost double the price of ordinary diesel powered buses, even if the cost of electricity is a heck of a lot cheaper than diesel. I can however see cities like London, New York, LA and some Chinese cities potentially buying something like this in the future. London...maybe not so much yet, because they have only fairly recently bought the Routemaster hybrid buses at a cost of £285,000 each (or say $400,000) to... -

After BMW and Nissan, Toyota is now the third automaker directly trying to convince Tesla Model 3 reservation holders to drop their pre-orders and buy its vehicles instead. Who can blame them? Tesla created a pool of ~400,000 potential buyers of a ~$35,000 electric vehicle. Automakers now want to tap into that pool.

We should write letters to BMW, Nissan, and Toyota offering to give up our '$1,000 Tesla deposit' if they will give us a $2,000, manufacturer discount letter we can use at any dealer.

Bad smell in the air conditioning system
Hi my Plug-n Prius develops a bad smell in spring when the warm weather comes and again in autumn. The local Toyota seevicemen have repeatedly changed the coupe air filter and used some spray in the air vents to help out, but to no avail. The first time they changed the coupe air filter it was very wet and it didn't smell too good, but later filter changes had not shown a wet filter...
I have used an Omega spray to kill the "bugs and smell" from the AC system spring and autumn myself, and it does make the car smell good for a qouple of months time.
Yesterday I went to a Auto store nearby to get some more AC cleaner. I eas told that tis was no use as there must be some fault with my car and to contact Toyota and tell them to have this sorted out... I talked to the manager today and he says that this is not normal and that he will try to help.
Maybe someone here have some experience with the AC system on their cars?

If you’re picking a new car, truck or crossover based on the bottom line, you may be in for a surprise, according to a new study. While hybrids tend to deliver better mileage than comparable gasoline-powered vehicles, you may actually wind up spending more in the long run.
Less than one out of four of the 29 hybrids covered by consulting firm Vincentrie’s U.S. Hybrid Ownership study actually had lower costs than comparable gas-powered models. Lower pump prices are certainly a factor, but other issues play into the equation – notably including the fact that the fuel efficiency of non-hybrid vehicles has been fast on the rise.

- Light Truck/SUV way up in CA like elsewhere
- %PHEV in CA down a bit in 2016, I assume due to loss of HOV stickers
- BEV now outpacing PHEV in CA with the loss of HOV green stickers to PHEV
- California is ~11% of USA population so it should be 11% sales in CA (if CA was "normal")

Now that it's out in the wild with rumors of some being spotted on the road, has anyone seen a release date? It's now live on the official Toyota page with TSS-P feature now on every trim.
I was at the dealership today to buy a 2016 model and while I was there I saw the 2017 on my phone. Now my car being sold to me is on pause . -
Comment Period on CAFE Rules to End

Federal regulators have denied a request from automakers to extend the period that comments can be submitted over a report showing U.S. automakers probably will miss the 54.5 miles-per-gallon fleetwide average for 2025.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the California Air Resources Board denied a request from 16 auto industry and business lobbying groups in Washington that was led by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and Association of Global Automakers Inc. to extend a 60-day comment period over the report on the proposed emission rules that cover the model years between 2022 and 2025. The comment period began ticking down July 18.

Tesla just announced the range of the model s will increase from 300 miles to a maximum of 315 miles - which just coincidentally - ends up ripping-away Toyota's alt fuel preferred hydrogen distance bragging rights . . . .

Yea - nevermind they're dumping the 0-60mph time too, down from 2.8 seconds to 2.5 seconds. This comes from tesla's new 100kWh pack rumored & written about in PC's ev sub forum not too long ago.
