In a Prius, these motors could shave almost 100 lbs but there is an even more effective approach. Encapsulate the stators in a non-conductive bath inside a jacket.
This would provide direct, heat conduction and increase the power density even further. With a pressurized coolant bath, it could leave the enclosing jacket and go through a phase change to efficiently... -

Apparently a significant portion of the oil production is shut in for safety reasons. Bottom line analysts expecting a rough weeks ahead in the gasoline/crude prices.

Indeed, he called it “obscene.”…
Context matters, of course. According to a CNN report, Marchionne called the experience – presumably in a Model S – “obscene” because there was no engine noise.

Volvo Supposedly claims ~ 25miles. Owners report ~ ½ that range. Consequently, the sharks are circling;

Survey: How many Prii are owned in CARB States?
I'll start this survey here and the Mods can move it if so desired.
Here is a simple survey trying to look at how many Prii are owned in US CARB states?
- The 10 so-called Extended CARB states are CA/MD/RI/ME/NJ/NY/CT/MA/VT/OR* where OR is not exactly same status, but these states all extend the hybrid battery warranty out to 10-yrs and 150,000 miles
- The 3 so-called Standard CARB states are DE/PA/WA and these states only get the standard 8-yr 100,000 mile warranty on the hybrid battery.
- New Mexico residents - hang on until we figure out if NM status has changed in 2016
The purpose of the survey is just general interest since HV Battery management is an important topic on Prius Chat, this gives us some... -

Volkswagen says it was able to deliver 2.49 million vehicles during the first three months of 2016, a 0.8% year-over-year increase. Despite its diesel woes, sales surged 6.4% in the Chinese market, and it gained ground in the rest of Asia, as well as Europe.
But the German maker suffered a 5.7% dip in the U.S., and a 2.1% decline in all of North America. That’s actually not as bad as it could have been. Before the maker acknowledged rigging its diesels to illegally pass American emissions tests last September, those oil burners accounted for about a quarter of its U.S. sales. In the wake of the Volkswagen and Mitsubishi emissions reporting scandals, regulators around the world are getting tougher on automakers with China leading the way, says Ford CEO Mark Fields.
China will be the most stringent about transparent compliance with fuel economy and greenhouse gas reporting by automakers “given some of the societal factors around air pollution,” he said. Fields spoke to reporters Saturday on the eve of the Beijing Auto Show, China’s biggest auto show.

2016 TOYOTA RAV4 HYBRID SUV REVIEW
ONCE UPON a time, the RAV4 was a bit of a rebel. With its surfer-dude vibe and fun-to-drive attitude, it shook off Toyota’s grey cardigan image, appealing to younger drivers who viewed conventional hatchbacks and saloons with the same sort of disdain they’d show for their parents’ record collections.
That was way back in 1994, when Blur and Oasis were getting into verbal spats, Sony launched the PlayStation, Loaded lads mag stirred up controversy and the Channel Tunnel gave rise to that cultural high point in continental travel, the booze cruise.
Much like the drivers that buy SUVs these days, who have probably got married, had children and taken several steps up the property ladder, the latest 2016 RAV4 range has grown up. It’s larger, plusher and can now be bought with Toyota’s signature tech: hybrid.

With hybrids available now for almost two decades, the gee-whiz factor dissipated long ago, so a new hybrid has to succeed on the same terms as any other mainstream car.
Viewed that way, the 2016 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid succeeds admirably.
The Korean auto giant introduced the redesigned mid-sized Sonata last year and, for 2016, launched its second-generation hybrid in several trim versions, with the plug-in model at the top.
