AEP Ohio giving a cashback on purchase of electric vehicle.
Just got this e-mail message from my local Nissan dealer.
As part of their effort to accelerate electric vehicle transportation alternatives throughout the US, Nissan North America is offering AEP Ohio customers an incentive offer toward the purchase of a new 100% electric Nissan LEAF.
Eligible customers can receive up to $6,000 cash back on the purchase of a 2020 Nissan LEAF or LEAF PLUS.
You may also qualify for up to $7,500 in Federal tax credit! That's up to $13,500 in potential total savings!
Prices start at $31,600 to $40,000 and the Leaf has a 40kw battery and range of 149 miles and Leaf Plus has a 62 kw battery and a range of 226 miles. I don't know if you get the full $6,000 on the less expensive ones. A Leaf wouldn't be my first choice for an EV...Ronald Doles Nov 5, 2020 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 2,873 Likes: 0 Replies: 5 -

Why is there Tesla inventory?
When you read the news all you hear about is Tesla selling out and waiting lists, yet there appears to be storage lots with new and used Tesla sitting in SoCal!! They appear to be pretty dirty and parked there for some time. So what gives?

Cummings full of gas
Source: Fuel Cells | Cummins Inc.
Cummins acquires Hydrogenics, a fuel cell and hydrogen production technologies provider, makes a minority investment in Loop Energy, a fuel cell electric range extender provider, and signs a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai Motor Company to collaborate on hydrogen fuel cell technology.
Well it looks like another money pit.

Volkswagen Responds To VDA's Hydrogen/eFuels
Source: Volkswagen Responds To VDA's Hydrogen/eFuels Plan: It's 'Nonsensical'
VW says the potential for hydrogen/liquid fuels is overstated, which goes against the German Association of the Automotive Industry.
Many companies and automakers banked on hydrogen for a time, though most are now changing their tune. Volkswagen isn't happy with the German Association of the Automotive Industry's (VDA) request for a hydrogen mandate.

Dr. Prius Packs Less Than A Year Away?
Here's pack #1 and #2 of the final pre-production test batch of Dr. Prius' aka: @jacktheripper's lithium packs for Prius.
It took 1/2 dozen years to get the right lithium chemistry and packet size to get to this point. And though the module cases were 3D printed, which took an exhausting amount of time per module, the weaknesses of 3D printing accuracy won't be an issue in the production version which will be a much more precise and quick to make injection molded plastic.
Above are the two initial test vehicles for these packs. On the left is a Prius modified for fastest lap times at the race track and it belongs to Rice Prius and on the right is my tired old 1/4 million mile Prius that's never needed any work other than basic engine and battery maintenance and is still all original parts in...PriusCamper Oct 28, 2020 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 52,718 Likes: 11 Replies: 146 -

Excessive registration fees coming to EV and hybrid owners
Keep an eye on your lawmakers as they try to balance transportation budgets. Ohio added a $200 EV and $100 hybrid surcharge to yearly registration fees. I was shocked to get a $166 registration renewal this month. Several other states are doing it too. -

VW ID.4 with 3 years free charging
First off, I'm not tempted as my Std Rng Plus Model 3 has some unique capabilities. Regardless, it is a hoot to see VW offering three years of free charging:
Since VW owns Electrify America, having both the charging network and EV manufacturing is the way to go. IMHO, the problems with Electrify America is they had no unified population of EVs that needed reliable charging. The ID.4 may provide the standard to solve the cacophony of CCS-1 style, fast DC charging.
Frankly, any CCS-1 style, EV maker should contract with Electrify America for 3 years of free charging. This will deflate the central California, hydrogen experiment.
