VW ID.4 with 3 years free charging
First off, I'm not tempted as my Std Rng Plus Model 3 has some unique capabilities. Regardless, it is a hoot to see VW offering three years of free charging:
Since VW owns Electrify America, having both the charging network and EV manufacturing is the way to go. IMHO, the problems with Electrify America is they had no unified population of EVs that needed reliable charging. The ID.4 may provide the standard to solve the cacophony of CCS-1 style, fast DC charging.
Frankly, any CCS-1 style, EV maker should contract with Electrify America for 3 years of free charging. This will deflate the central California, hydrogen experiment.

Tesla has new batteries in a few years
These larger better, cheaper, last longer batteries, that recycle easier and could be for tesla only, but wouldn't it be great if they made a pack for ALL the different types of Prius too? Do you think it will happen? -
Special "Happy 20th Birthday" show on What Drives Us This Week
It all came together rather quickly, but this week's What Drives Us show will be dedicated entirely to the 20 year history of Prius. We will have people from Toyota Marketing North America. Yes, even Doug from "Prius Team" will be there. We will talk about how the Gen 1 Prius came about and how they progressed all the way to the Prius Prime. Perhaps we will be able to coerce some future speculation out of them. But only if everyone promises to sing a non-disclosure.
Lots of stories and reminiscing about our own Prii, Prius-related events, and much much more.
I know it's extremely short notice, but feel free to share your Prius stories and we'll try to share them on the show.
The show will record 8:00pm CST Wednesday night, October 7, and will post to YouTube shortly thereafter.

Sudbury in the news again
Some of us are old enough to remember a Sunday Mail, hit piece that claimed Prius NiMH batteries had turned Sudbury into a 'moon scape.' The article was a lie that a slander suit caused its retraction:
Common Prius Myths | Prius Wiki | Fandom
Prius battery nickel destroyed Sudbury Canada - this complete fabrication appeared in the Sunday Mail but unlike the USA, Canada and the UK have libel laws with teeth. Upon threat of a lawsuit, the Sunday Mail withdrew the article[1] after it escaped to the Internet. A corollary is that shipping nickel from the mine through processing consumes huge amounts of energy negating the Prius mileage savings. However, Sudbury's mining environmental problems occurred 30 years before the first Prius rolled off the line. At maximum, the Prius traction battery is less than 1% of the mine output with most of the nickel going to stainless steel and consumer batteries in cell...bwilson4web Oct 1, 2020 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,569 Likes: 0 Replies: 0 -

Cumulative BEV sales reached one million units while cumulative PHEV sales were about 600,000.
