Greetings everyone,

So I am referring to just the Prius itself, not including the C and V. However, I made this prediction a while back. Toyota has said for quite some time that they want hybrid models for all vehicles in their line up. I've said that once the Corolla gets a hybrid model - the Prius is dead. Looks like Corolla Hybrid is indeed coming in 2020.

Then I found this article earlier today regarding Toyota getting serious about an all electric platform.

I've had my 2004 since new and still love it, but with this news I truly believe that the main Prius days are now numbered.

When the Trump administration laid out a plan this year that would eventually allow cars to emit more pollution, automakers, the obvious winners from the proposal, balked. The changes, they said, went too far even for them.

But it turns out that there was a hidden beneficiary of the plan that was pushing for the changes all along: the nation’s oil industry.

In Congress, on Facebook and in statehouses nationwide, Marathon Petroleum, the country’s largest refiner, worked with powerful oil-industry groups and a conservative policy network financed by the billionaire industrialist Charles G. Koch to run a stealth campaign to roll back car emissions standards, a New York Times investigation has found.

Probably would take a major grid upgrade first but is intriguing.

Well, at least they're admitting it. And they're not entirely wrong since EV's are still just a small fraction of total vehicle sales around the world.

That said, I wonder what would've become of the Rav4 EV if they continued to improve it. Or at least offered a plug-in hybrid version.

Aston Martin has announces a program to convert their older cars to electric so they do not get banned from UK's cities. The conversion is reversible should somebody later want a gasoline engine.

An interesting article I spotted- AP news link

Apparently there's an EV-related law in china and some of the fine print states that EVs must transmit location and other data in real time to government agencies.

I see some interesting numbers:

Ca. Sales (YTD 3rd Quarter)
BEV 61,386 (42% of USA sales)
PHEV 45,537 (53% of USA sales)

USA Sales (YTD 3rd Quarter)
BEV 144,505
PHEV 85,369

So these 3Q numbers are unusual, representing a number of factors. I attempt to interpret below.

(1) Normally, PHEV sales in Ca. are about 40% of USA but this year we are approaching 55% of PHEV sales sales in Ca. I tentatively attribute this to the new HOV rules in California, requiring current Ca. plug-in owners to get new plug-ins to stay in HOV beyond Jan_2019.

(1) BEV., normally Ca. is 50% of BEV market, now dropping down to 42%. What's happening here is the Tesla Model-3 sales are swamping the normal annual trends, and it would appear Tesla is selling more of the Model-3's outside of Calfornia....

This gotta be BS right? FIrst, why would it use the old design taillights, second, how is this caught on camera? Its clearly edited and out on that parking lot... Very badly edited also... I checked out their facebook, apparently by some reason they have 600 page likes, but literally no likes what so ever on any of the BS articles they share... checked all their posts all the way back to 2016, not a single like... This got to be complete and utter BS right?
