EV Myths - add your own!
There are a lot of misconceptions about EVs out there. Here are 3 we see circulating most often.
MYTH 1: EVs don’t have enough range
- Reality: EVs don't go as long between charges as gas cars go between fill-ups, but they don’t have to. The average U.S. driver travels only 30 miles a day, well within the range of any EV, and those with long-range driving needs have their pick of EVs with 125+ miles of range.
MYTH 2: EVs aren't environmentally friendly because electricity comes from coal
- Reality: EVs cut greenhouse gas emissions in half, no matter how the energy used to charge them is produced. If you live in a state that produces most of its energy from renewable sources, you can reduce your emissions even more. EVs waste less of the energy they consume.
MYTH 3: It takes too long to charge
- Reality: Charging an EV takes only a few seconds: the time it takes to plug the car in before you go do...

Tesla hits 200,000 U.S. Plug-in cars (GM soon)
Wow an important milestone, also reduces Fed tax credit
Tesla hits 200,000 cars, meaning lower tax credit for buyers
"(Reuters) - Tesla Inc has delivered 200,000 electric cars to buyers in the United States, a spokesperson said on Thursday, meaning tax credits will now begin to be lowered, while rivals such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW AG and Audi AG will bring electric models to the market with a full tax credit in place.
Both GM and Tesla have been lobbying Congress since last year, hoping to win changes to tax law that would allow them to continue to collect the tax credit, but have been unsuccessful to date."wjtracy Jul 13, 2018 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,645 Likes: 0 Replies: 18 -
Ontario Ends the Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle and Charging Incentive Programs
On July 3, 2018, Ontario cancelled the cap and trade program as part of its commitment to bring gas prices down by 10 cents a litre and help reduce costs for Ontario families and businesses by $1.9 billion dollars per year.
Given the Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Incentive Program and the Electric Vehicle Charging Incentive Programs are funded through cap-and-trade proceeds, these programs are cancelled.
Applications will be accepted from dealerships, car owners or prospective car owners only if one of the following conditions has been met:
- Eligible vehicles that have been delivered to consumers, registered, and plated on or before July 11 will receive the incentive.
- Inventory that dealers have on lots or orders made by dealerships with manufacturers on or before July 11, will also be honoured for the incentive provided that the vehicle is delivered to consumers, registered, and plated by September 10.

Review of the 2018 Kia Niro PHEV
Hey everyone,
I just posted my week-long commuter review of the Kia Niro PHEV.
Definitely some pluses but also a few minuses. All-in-all, my initial impression is that this is a solid PHEV contender.

Fisker designs an ugly
Source: BOSS Magazine | Fisker Orbit, New Partnership Announced by Fisker Inc.
This is supposed to be a shuttle vehicle.
The original Fisker appealed to Bob Lutz enough that he bought some gliders to install Corvette drivetrains. It never really appealed to me because of the faux engine compartment but here it is:
I can't explain why but the Fisker shuttle really looks bad to me and I'm not particularly interested in 'sheet metal art.' It would be kind to call it bullet shaped but more accurate to call it a 'Vitamin E' or some sort of suppository. All I can say for me is UGH!

Tesla needs to Catch up
With all the news about Tesla, you would think they are the number one in EV manufacture and sales in the world. But this is not the case at all. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is still the biggest EV car maker. Then you have many Chinese brands that are selling lots in China.orenji Jun 29, 2018 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 14,120 Likes: 3 Replies: 161 -

Volvo predicts optimum battery size
Source: AD #2383 – Volvo Predicts Shorter Range EVs, Pratt & Miller Develops Extreme Suspension, Next-Gen Malibu Details – Autoline Daily
VOLVO PREDICTS SHORTER RANGE EVs
Volvo predicts that we’re soon going to see electric cars with shorter driving ranges, not longer ones. Volvo’s head of R&D, Henrik Green, says people have range anxiety today because there are not enough public fast-charging stations. That’s why they want EVs with longer range. He says once fast-charging stations become common, car buyers will wonder why they’re spending so much money on bigger batteries and lugging all that extra weight around all the time. He says a 50 kilowatt-hour battery will be ideal. That would provide around 200 miles of range. Henrik Green says EV owners do 95% of their charging at home so they start out every morning with their maximum range available.
Strangely I can agree...bwilson4web Jun 27, 2018 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 3,400 Likes: 3 Replies: 34 -

Honda Insight: 3rd time's the charm
Apparently the news embargo is over: Try and Try Again: Honda Finally Nails it With 2019 Insight | TheDetroitBureau.com
It was quite literally another century when the first Honda Insight came to the U.S. market. Beating the now familiar Toyota Prius by several months, Honda’s originally hybrid was a quirky little two-seater that, in one configuration, delivered more than 70 miles per gallon.
But its trade-offs were many and, unlike its HEV rival, sales of the original Insight tanked, Honda soon pulling it from the market. But the Japanese automaker brought the nameplate back in 2008, this time as a five-door hatchback promoted as the lowest-priced hybrid available in the U.S. It didn’t fare any better and was culled from the line-up in 2014.
Now, Honda is back with a third-generation Insight and, if our initial drive is any indication, three’s a real...bwilson4web Jun 20, 2018 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 7,044 Likes: 2 Replies: 46 -

Musk on sabotage
Source: Elon Musk email: Employee conducted 'extensive and damaging sabotage'
I was dismayed to learn this weekend about a Tesla employee who had conducted quite extensive and damaging sabotage to our operations. This included making direct code changes to the Tesla Manufacturing Operating System under false usernames and exporting large amounts of highly sensitive Tesla data to unknown third parties.
The full extent of his actions are not yet clear, but what he has admitted to so far is pretty bad. His stated motivation is that he wanted a promotion that he did not receive. In light of these actions, not promoting him was definitely the right move.
