Nissan LEAF Slide Confirms 225-Plus Mile Range, $35,000 Price Tag For 60-kWh 2019 Model

Sources, including some of our own, had previously let it be known that the upcoming 60-kWh Nissan LEAF would return 225-plus miles of EPA range, but it wasn’t until just recently that we’ve been able to let loose the intel directly from Nissan.

The slide above shows the automaker’s intent with the 2019 LEAF. As you can see, it’ll be positioned range-wise against the likes of the base Tesla Model 3 and the Chevrolet Bolt.

Porsche 911 Plug-in Hybrid Penciled In For Around 2023

Last week Porsche cleared up ambiguity as to whether it will make a plug-in hybrid 911, though a model yet to be fully greenlighted won’t be here overnight.

Assuming plans the company’s CEO Oliver Blume verified go forward, look for it somewhere around 2023 when the brand’s top model gets a mid-cycle refresh on the next generation version – which itself should launch around 2019.

“It will be very important for the 911 to have a plug-in hybrid,” said Blume to Automotive News at an event at the Los Angeles Auto Show. While the final approval has yet to be given, Blume said it’s “my opinion that we will go for it.”

Citing improved batteries on the horizon, Blume said a 47-Ah system allowing up to 43 miles of EV driving could be possible for the rear-engine car that needs to keep weight acceptably trim.

Toyota Prius Prime Displaces Chevy Volt As America’s Best-Selling Plug-in Hybrid

It was the Chevy Volt’s game to lose, but lose it finally did as the Toyota Prius Prime eclipsed its year-end sales tally to take the Volt’s place as America’s best-selling plug-in Hybrid.

With 2,420 sales in December to add to 18,516 through November, the Prime again had a better month than the Volt and finished with 20,936 for the year. The Volt’s 1,937 sales in December added to 18,412 through November for 20,349 total, and a deficit of 587 sales.
