    Just because the taxes collected for charging an EV, or the extra property taxes on them, don't go directly to the maintenance of roads, doesn't mean EVs are getting a free ride. Those taxes are going to something of general benefit to society. It likely isn't enough to match what a gasser pays, but much of it is because of the better efficiency of the EV. And collected fuel taxes have been dropping because ICE cars have become more efficient, before EVs came along.

    Very true. And we haven't even begun to bring up another important point. How much do cities and states spend on clean air programs and their negative health effects.
    If we are going to have a per mile road use tax for all cars then shouldn't we also have a per mile or per gallon smog tax as well.
    In CA we have to get ICE cars smog checked and be below certain levels. Based on your score and miles since last checked a dirty air fee could be applied.
