I'm a former vw TDI owner, and I used to manage 50+- a gallon. It took me a few months to learn how to drive this car, and have it break in for 12k miles, but mission accomplished. Broke 52 mpg on about a 450 mile tank (3 pips to go). Thats a real 52 mpg, and not my optimistic cars opinion. Greatest lesson learned is to add slow to the equation.
