I recently purchased a 2010 and a 2011 prius. The first one was the 2010 and on mixed driving to work, part freeway and part stop and go fifty mph. It would get fifty plus without trying. Now I get the 2011 and I struggle to get 48.5! It's got new sumitomo tires at 50 psi. The other has Michelin M&S , new. Identical other than that. Anyone care to comment? Thanks.
1.5mpg difference is small enough to be tire difference. Fill out the fuel economy questionnaire and post here, but honestly 48.5mpg is not that bad.
Ditto. 1.5 mpg difference is 3%. My mpg fluctuates 4% day to day with identical commutes. How many miles have you driven the 2011 and has it been gone the same commutes as the 2010?
Thanks for all the replies. Sounds unlikely, but I changed the oil and filter since last post with mobile one 0W-20 and right now the digital display is up to 54 mpg for same route and driving habits. Go Figure. RHFACTOR
The wrong grade of oil in the gen3 can make a significant difference to fuel economy (see posts by Grumpy Cabby) and I find even in the gen2 a worthwhile difference. Even the dealers have been known to get this wrong. John (Britprius)
