Notes from a 400-mile trip (SF→LA) | PriusChat Pk, I'm sure the range at 15 mph is closer to 1000 miles…however I don't want to drive over 25 hours to see my parents…
Now that thread came in real handy. There's a poster over on Fred's TDI that was spouting the usual BS about how Prii are bad on gas at highway speeds and how they can't make it up hills, blah, blah, blah and I just quoted your post to him. I guess batteries will come up next.
Saw the post, saw his reply. The guy is in denial, oh well, I'm sure a random forum post wasn't going to change his mind. One thing is certain, I'm not making these numbers up. This car amazes me every day. I just can't wait to get a job so that I can do all the mods in my thread. At some point in the coming year I'll be taking it to the track to see how it performs.
He replied that his first hand experience is with his wife's sister's car. I guess that makes him an expert.
I am getting to the end of the first tank since getting this car. The manual says the low fuel warning light comes on with about 1.6 gallons of fuel left (p537). Mine is showing 36 miles left on tank yet that light has not come on yet. What are others' experience with the relation between those two, and maybe more important, is there consistency with all PIPs?
mine is absolutely consistent. start to finish, 8 gallons. each pip is about one g. my last pip starts flashing around 15 miles left i think, but it depends on how many ev miles you have, also. so mine, for whatever reason, has about 2 gallons left when the last pip flashes.
Mine also is about 8-8.5 before fill up. I go around 2 or when it becomes 1 pip left. Scared of seeing that last pop flashing. Had bad experience from my previous cars.
I'm sorry but you're posting in the Plug in forums. The plug ins have a different tank capacity compared to the normal Prius. Mine is always filling up roughly at 8.5 with the light flashing.
Thanks all. So it sounds like the miles-left-on-tank and 1.6 gallons-left-when-flashing-starts do not really match up well.
Just fill the tank when it's getting low on gas. There are no awards for getting it down to the last thimbleful...
You are obviously not from my household! I'm very happy with 900+ miles on this first tank. Certainly 1000 is possible.
