Daily Herald | 213 miles per gallon? Suburban man says no problem From the suburban daily paper here in Chicagoland.
Cops: "Hypermiling" Often Risky, Illegal, AAA Agrees; Master Hypermiler Clarifies Suggested Techniques, Tells Motorists To Steer Clear Of Dangerous Maneuvers - CBS News .
What amazed me the most in the Herald story was the comment that he now does this "full time". No more job as a nuclear engineer?
So it seems "hypermiling" is the crime du jour. In NJ I can assure you that the "hypermiling", "tailgating", and "speeding" sections of the motor vehicle code are not routinely enforced. However, it has been Revenue Enhancement Week.
Since the AAA has gone to great lengths to say hypermilers are the preeminent road terror to fear above all else, members at CleanMPG are changing their avitars to various nut-case criminals such as The Mad Bomber, Manson, Liz Borden, etc. I'd hate for the AAA to look like a bunch of outright liars....
Hi Charlie..., er Delta Flyer, Too Late. Here in Illinois, I have yet to see a police officer pull over a tailgating SUV. I think that is one thing that is sorely lacking in the Chicagoland area, is enforcement of failure to maintain a safe following distance. Even if the police loose these cases in court, they really need to take the effort. This is much more dangerous than speeding in my view. A month or so ago, a guy plowed his SUV into the back of a Suzuki Samurai that was slowning for traffic. I saw this jeep-like vehicle being hauled away. It was totally burned. All the paint was burned off, and also was the tire rubber. The seats and steering wheel had everything burned away but the steel ring, and springs. In front of the Samurai was a Minvan full of kids. Which the flaming Samurai was pushed into. Luckily, they all got out alive.
I pulled out of my sub division today and sped up to the local speed limit 35. Up behind me runs up an old van with fire fighter decals on it. He blinks his lights and crowd within 5 ft of me. He stays within 5 ft of me all the way to the corner and the light. I never speed up for him but thought about slowing down a bit. I really need those rear facing 50 cal guns!
C'mon Wayne, you can tease better than that. . . Wayne got an invitation to be interviewed for the Community segments. If you get Chicagoland Comcast television, watch for it.
Tony!! It is still a tease. Can you give me any better idea of the name of the show or how often/when it might be running?
If the segment is called "Community Connection", then I see it is showing at 12 noon, 4pm and 10pm on Tuesday, July 8, as well as 1:30pm on Wednesday, July 9.
