<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(airportkid @ Nov 13 2007, 01:17 PM) </div> The latest one began about 9 years ago.Im surprised this one hasn't been solved yet.As they are each enormous events in history. But so far your guessing is cold. I think that they are all within 15 miles of one another.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(airportkid @ Nov 13 2007, 01:17 PM) </div> Not really .They just came to mind in that order.
If I calculate correctly, the first picture's event happened in 1966. An even more famous occurrence of the same thing happened a few miles away at the second picture in 1939. And a third occurrence is most famous of all that started in 1998, again, just a few miles away in the third picture. Somewhere in LA, SFO or San Diego (the only street views in California). "Began" in 1998 - as in an event still going on, or that transpired over a period of several days, weeks, months or years? I haven't got any ideas but I'm sure we're all going to bang our foreheads when we find out! MB
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(airportkid @ Nov 13 2007, 04:27 PM) </div> This first image was around 1976.Yes its a head banger. If you find the general area you will know the answer.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(airportkid @ Nov 13 2007, 04:27 PM) </div> Yes "began" implies the occurrences are still going on.
I think i got it. Is it the HP Garage and Silicon Valley area? Well at least one of the pics look ike it. I'll check the map. Found it. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=367+Addison+...p;z=18&om=1 info: http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/abouthp/histnfacts/garage/ The HP Garage is a pretty cool place. I went there when they were giving tours. --------- Next one [attachmentid=12462]
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(orionll @ Nov 13 2007, 06:57 PM) </div> --------- OK the original image was Steve Jobs garage .Origin of Apple .Second was HP garage, origin of Silicon Valley. Third was Google garage.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(orionll @ Nov 13 2007, 07:40 PM) </div> I would think it counts. Now how about a clue to the high school looking pic.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(orionll @ Nov 13 2007, 06:57 PM) </div> http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?hl=en&q...p;z=17&om=1 I guess its Albany High School Dont want to sound demeaning but ,the brown fields led me to the East Bay. Ill leave it open.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mojo @ Nov 13 2007, 10:32 PM) </div> I better sit this one out - I got it on the first guess. Without giving anything away, this picture brings to mind Marc Reisner's excellent treatise on the politics of water management in the United States, "Cadillac Desert". Can you guess how many dams the stature and/or the hydro-generating power equivalent of Hoover Dam there are in the United States? The answer may be a shock (pardon the pun). MB
Just to clarify - Mojo's picture is NOT Hoover Dam and I'm sitting out since I know what it is. Mojo's picture still needs to be ID'd. MB
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(airportkid @ Nov 14 2007, 01:27 PM) </div> Try the Aswan Dam, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aswan_Dam The link is http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&q=23.9...c=addr&om=1 Let me find something. Well, this one has lots of play in a variety of folk rock songs. [attachmentid=12473]

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mojo @ Nov 14 2007, 11:48 PM) </div> Winslow, Arizona, near Meteor Crater east of Flagstaff and at the southern extremity of the Painted Desert. Don't know the song, though. The southwest is full of these arid valleys made green by circular irrigation - they look like giant pixels. This is a particularly picturesque one adjacent a national park (indicated by the arrow). [attachmentid=12475]

Irrigation next to Great Sand Dunes National Park. Google image The song's name from the previous post is "Take it Easy" You'll be lucky to find this one.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bestmapman @ Nov 15 2007, 09:33 AM) </div> I'll bet this is difficult, to boot.
