I recently bought a used '08 prius. I don't know what package it is although, I suspect it is Pkg # 2 (doesn't have leather seats, or 6 disc changer, or bluetooth, but DOES have a MFD console with audio, climate, info, and display interface) I'm wondering, if it would be possible to have Toyota install GPS capabilities on my MFD consol later, since I didn't want to foot the bill+ the interest on it when I financed the car?? Alsodoes anyone know how much it costs, and does it have to be doen by Toyota, or is there somewhere else I can do it??
Hi there, I cannot answer your questions, but I can tell you that the MFD is standard on all Prius models.

If you have the backup camera then you do have package 2. If not you have a very rare package 1. For < $250 buy a superior Garmin & a beanbag mount & be happy.
It would be cost prohibitive to add GPS to a package 2. There is a difference in the MFDs between a package 2 and a package 5 which has GPS. There are also other components required such as the DVD player, antenna, wiring harness, etc. You will be much happier getting a good Garmin or Tom-Tom.
I just recently got the latest dvd for the gps nav system. Where is the box to take out the old dvd and insert the new one? WIll I lose my saved addresses when I insert the new dvd? DOes the car need to be running to insert the new dvd? Should I turn car off when I take out old dvd and the put in new one then turn car on and follow promts. Thank you
http://priuschat.com/forums/audio-electronics/40069-how-install-navigation-dvd-update.html Sounds like you leave the car on with the GPS on the screen, swap out the discs and it should automatically begin loading. I believe it should continue to store your locations by GPS coordinates and I don't see any reason why it would lose them, unless you unplugged the GPS unit or remove battery power from the car.
