Did a 100-mile round trip on the M6 from Stoke-on-Trent to Warrington (UK) in my gen 2. Averaged 65mpg at 64mph on cruise (60mph actual). Not bad for a 18-year-old car.

Now, I wonder if a diesel could beat this? A PD engine, without a dpf etc. before emissions rules were introduced? Or if an economical petrol-only ICE could beat this?

Usually I get 450-500 miles per tank, providing it’s warm out and I do well with hypermyling.
