I finally spotted two 2010s up here in the boonies of northern Michigan. The first one was a white one a couple of days ago. It came from Iowa City, so it was 550 miles from home. The owner was a retired woman whose previous car was a hybrid Camry. She said she loved the Camry, but the Prius was so much better. She was almost gushing when she talked about it. The second one was gray with Michigan plates; the dealership was from downstate. It's tourist season so most of the cars are from out of the area. Both had the moonroof with solar panel. Tom
Everyone that I've seen on the road has seen a Gen 3. That's a lot of people. And to give you a sense of how popular the Gen 3 Prius is... everyone I know knows someone who owns one. Amazing!
I've only seen two here. One was parked so I went around the block to get a second look. The other one was on a side street turning into traffic - I almost crashed trying to get a look at it (I can testify to the wonderful braking power of the Gen 3!)
I only saw one on 680 S near Danville yesterday, going opposite direction. Looked good. Saw one last Friday near a 'roach coach'. Guy had racks on top. Said he missed some of the power his old Passat had, but not that much. He really liked it. Said he's getting about 47 MPG Hwy. .... ah, duh, this explains why he's only getting 47 MPG hwy .... because he's driving around with big racks stuck to the roof.
I haven't seen any in Raleigh, NC yet. Even searched the local Whole Foods parking lot which is a Mecca for Prii - nary a one. Maybe if I cruise over to Chapel Hill I will see one - every third car there is a Prius. My little red "Mater" is lonesome.
Austin is Prius central, and I have been looking for the new one on the road for weeks with no luck. I see 6-8 Gen IIs work almost everyday, so I can't believe it took me this long to spot a Gen III. It was a couple of aisles over in the parking lot of the south Austin Central Market (local Whole Foods competitor), the light silver (not dark gray). I thought about stalking it, but I had to get back to the office...
I've been looking for them. No luck so far even in the LA area, but it's only been a week since I got mine.
Saw a winter gray rolling around the VT drillfield this morning. Caught my eye immediately because Blacksburg is full of Priuses and I had never before seen one that color.
I've only seen one (black Gen 3) south of Seattle (Federal Way area). But I have seen a 2010 white Prius on the sales lot at Auburn Toyota for the past 4 weeks just sitting there.
I saw 2 last week. I will see one up close and personal next time we go to the in-laws or they come to us (a whole 8 miles). My father-in-law picked up a Silver model IV yesterday. First non Detroit car in his 84 years of life as far as I know. His last 3 cars were either Taurus or Sable wagons. I didn't know him when he got the first Taurus and I've been married for 20 years so you know he doesn't get new cars all that often.
I know that 4-6 of them have been sold in my town, but have not seen one driving around. I did see one that was parked at a McDonald's which was timely as I parked beside it and went in to eat (still too early to eat in the car). Sure enough, the people who were driving it were inside watching their car from the window so we had a good conversation about the 2010 model. They also had bought theirs in Kansas City and I told him about Priuschat so he might become a member at some point! Max
I saw No. 3 today. A Blizzard Pearl on Randall Road, driving from Geneva to St. Charles, IL!! First sighting was in Batavia, IL (red); second sighting in New Buffalo, MI (silver).
Picked up my 2010 III three weeks ago. Have yet to see another 2010 on the road in the Tampa Bay area.
Prius rules on Martha's Vineyard Since getting our Gen III Blizzard Perl III five weeks ago have seen only Gen II's, both in Tampa area and on Martha's Vineyard Island. On vacation here on MV I've encountered a HUGE density of Gen II's. On any given day I will see at least five on brief drives. Apparently the car of choice here given gas prices edging $4/gal, having been over $5/gal last year. But no Gen III's seen yet. Wish my Gen III was with me and not in my garage in St. Petersburg. Am doing my best with loaner Camry for rest of vacation.
Two more spotted on Thursday of this past week: My first Sandy Beach drove by me in the early afternoon in downtown Arlington Heights, IL. Later in the afternoon, I spied a Classic Silver turning from IL-83 onto Dundee Road.
Saw one today. Not many seen lately. But, they were being taken on test drives at Fremont, Piercey Toyota. There'll be hoardes of them in time. More the merrier.
