Wish I'da got a photo of this a couple weeks ago ... 4 gen2's .... in a row, on a busy street, 1 more behind my truck.
I've seen only 1 Gen III on the road so far, and it was the color I'm ending up with (Blue) which was nice because I liked in better in person than on the website. It was a week ago today going N on I-405 through Kirkland, WA. They'd already put a Jack-in-the-box clown head on the antaenna which I thought was odd for two reasons; why put something so ugly on such a great looking car and when the engineers worked so hard for such a low co-effcient drag, why would you choose to alter it even if only a tiny bit? or maybe I'm just a car snob.
The least they could have done was a Gumby on the antenna, and maintain some semblance of the coefficient of drag.
I've seen two in Rockville, MD. The first was a black one about 6 weeks ago. I had assumed it was a new 2009 but then I saw the blue Toyota badge. I followed it for quite a way, trying to get a better look from the side -- but it eventually turned off before I had a chance to get a really good look. The second is a red one that parks at the Grosvenor Metro Station garage where I park. I've seen it twice but haven't been able to get a good look at it because it's parked head-in on a ramp and I'm always in a line of cars when I pass it. Although I was invited to see two Priuschatters' IVs with solar, I have not seen any "in the wild" with solar roofs yet!
It is surprising you have seen only one. I've lost count of my Seattle-area sightings, somewhere in the vicinity of 20. The most recent was yesterday, also going N of I-405, a Blizzard Pearl spotted while I was cycling on the trail south of Bellevue.
Well, I really only started looking for them about 2 days before that. Now that my consciousness of them has raised considerably I expect to start noticing them more. It's also possible that I've seen them and thought they were IIs before I looked at a lot of pics of the III and started paying attention.
I saw my third live one today -- a Sandy Beach in Washington, DC (bet you didn't know we had beaches in DC, did you?)
I've seen one silver pulling out of a parking lot in Rockville MD. It somewhat hit the curb going out of the parking lot which made me cringe a bit. I've seen one other up in Germantown MD that was blue like mine.
In addition to my own (blue), I've seen four in the past three weeks around northern Virginia and Alexandria.
I saw a red in the Arby's parking lot in Menomonee Falls on Friday, a Blizzard Pearl Saturday going NB on Hwy-45 around Hapton Rd., and a Winter Gray on SB Hwy-41 between Fond du Lac and Milwaukee yesterday afternoon. We speed up and then slowed down and sped up to get a good look at the Winter Gray. Haven't seen a sunroof here yet.
Until yesterday, I'd only seen a 2 Gen3's. Yesterday we took delivery of our Winter Grey IV and went for a drive. While crossing Rte 2 in Lincoln a Gen3 Blue Ribbon came across from the other direction - nice timing! 2 cars, both G3's, sharing the intersection and showing off for the others waiting at the lights.
I finally saw my first one in Raleigh (other than my own) this past Sunday. Silver w/solar. I was amazed at how "pointy" the front end is. (I guess I hadn't studied the front end of mine) It kinda reminded me of the 1950 Studebaker my mom used to drive.
After 26 days, I finally saw another 2010. We were actually at the same restaurant in Chesapeake, VA. It was white (like mine) and it was a IV with the solar sunroof. I also got the name of a place for some needed tint (summers are hot and sunny here in SE Virginia!!!
