Wow, the dealer just said that the whole problem was caused by a mouse crawling and making a nest in the throttle body. I’m a happy camper
I forgot to add that to my list lol. They make motels primarily in the ac box and in the cabin filter. You probably know where that is but I'll tell you anyway. It's behind the glove box. Take the glove box out and pull the cabin filter out there's probably a double bed in there. Oh and take the back hatch out and check the trunk area too. Your probably way way overdue for a thorough throttle body cleaning that will stall you next. You have to scrub the throttle throat with carb leaner soaked cloth. Putting Rislone in your tank won't help that. It takes elbow grease.
Or in the air box at the underside of the air filter? The air intake up to that point is like a hamster run, lol. Or he might have chewed through the filter, and carried onto the throttle body. Used shredded air filter for bedding, insulation, good fun.
Does @Mendel Leisk need an excuse to do any of the maintenance on his "high km's" prius . He still powers through and gets it done.
I have very selfish motivation: others are piling the miles on faster, finding the problem areas. As a "late adopter", I'm benefitting from their experience, doing what I can to skirt the pitfalls. That said, rats in the engine bay can happen at any mileage, lol. I've got some galvanized steel mesh left over, the stuff you use on household exhaust vents, it's something like 1/4" opening size. I'll take the snorkel out (for convenience), snip out a piece of mesh a little bigger than the inlet, make some relief snips around the perimeter, push it in slightly recessed, drill a few small diameter holes around the peripheral and secure with twist tie wire: the lightweight/flexible stuff from supermarkets, so it's easily removed.
I have some issue my 2004 Prius stalled, engine run only 10 sec and dies.....trying to figure out what is the root cause ?
Was my reply to your P3190 post from yesterday not helpful enough? Since you are now replying to this thread, have you already checked for nesting in the throttle body? (this was what fixed OP's problem) Link to your post and my reply : Engine stall after 10 sec. | PriusChat
The engine is not running 10 seconds and dying, it’s attempting to start for 10 seconds and not starting. You need to read the codes to find the root cause.
