Haters of one manufacturer should not throw hate stones from their glass houses.
    ;)

Continue to play the ridiculous hater game solo as there are more important issues in life and transportation

The fact is that more Hyundai and Kia engines fail than those in Toyotas.

    Seeya in your Kia.

How long will a Toyota engine last when it too is neglected of basic maintenance?

Were all or the majority of the multitude of Kia engines neglected? Not likely.

Poster at the old Gassavers site had a theory about differences between different makes' reliability having an owner factor. Not the only factor, but one which doesn't seem to be considered for large scale influence.

The more reliable brands tend to be higher priced, or simply fewer discounts to keep the sold price higher. Aware of that cost, the owners take better care of the car, and follow the maintenance. The cars have a reputation of a long life, and they want to ensure that.

The brand with a worse reputation needs to have better incentives to move them. That, and the reliability history gives them a reputation of being cheap. Being thought off as cheap and short life, makes it easy to think of the cars as disposable. Which in turn leads to being more lax with maintenance. The poor reliability becomes a self fulfilling prophesy.

    Good analysis, Trollbait.

These individuals are likely ones not that much into the aspects of cars, like the ones on this site, and purchase cars mostly on looks, jazzy features and low cost.

For these individuals, maintenance is less important and can wait after money is spent on a new toy.

An interesting study would be to see if better off individuals maintain their cars differently than less well of ones. Buy a cheap car, poor maintenance, increasing failures?

And are cheaper cars more often leased? Does leasing lead to less strict maintenance schedules or more?

The same thing seems to be true with residences owned and those occupied by renters.

Kia crowned most dependable car brand by J.D. Power | Fox News

"The South Korean automaker has topped the J.D. Power 2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study ahead of Buick. Kia's sister brands Hyundai and Genesis were third and fourth, followed by Toyota and its luxury brand Lexus, which was first in 2021.

The study is based on a survey of owners who have had their vehicles for three years and grade them on 184 possible problem areas, plus their current overall condition."

JD Power is the most respected name in evaluating Automakers in the world. They also assign the highly sought after Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards to Automobile Manufacturing Plants around the world. The study is based on owners who have had their vehicles for at least 3 years.

Toyota did very well in the survey also. The surveyor mentions that the auto industry is now building the best quality cars in history. Every year the cars and competition is getting better.

What we often find is people who are biased are really not interested in facts or figures- only their own biased inclinations.
