I testdrove Ford's new turbo-3 and didn't notice any lag. The turbo is the size of a quarter so it spins up very easily. The Jetta hybrid with turbo uses the electric motor to hide the turbo lag. In effect the electric provides instant boost while the turbo provides boost 1 second later. They complement one another.
