Normal unleaded which here is Premium Unleaded 95 RON ( I believe it's the same as your 90/91). We don't have any lower rated fuel, just 95 and 98 unleaded.

Maybe we have issues here because of the on, off, on, off city driving over much lower distances between lights etc than in the US. An EGR failing at this mileage is uncommon here too, even on diesels.

Is it the cooled EGR? Depending on what exactly is in the gasoline and thus exhaust, I can see the cooling causing things to come out of 'solution'.

I've no idea and didn't see your post in time to ask. The mechanic said it was heavily gummed up.

I might have been my own worst enemy as I use the cheapest fuel, though running over $8 a US gallon for even the cheapest, you can see why I seek it out.

The car drove much more smoothly and the transition from ev to engine is back almost to like new. It was starting to hesitate or cough when it transitioned before and got worse the nearer to failure. They'd checked the HV battery and it came back as being within parameters. Hopefully I'll get a reliable year out of the car now? Hmmm.

Euro version were all made on a Friday night 3rd shift! Or Maybe Euro Prius are mistreated and never washed? Weird that US Prius's have no real problem, even the cabs and Police Pruii in NY City are well liked!

Well I ain't making it up. I didn't sign on here 4 years and thousands of posts ago to play a long term troll act.

The cars are suited to the wide open roads of the US and not the narrow slow legacy road network in Europe. Or maybe as others have suggested, the US (with its 150,000 mile warranty in some States) got the class A battery cells whereas the European versions with the original 60,000 mile hybrid warranty got the class B cells?

It is weird that the European members on here with gen3's are having problems. I never thought I would but its cheesing me off big time.

Isn't traffic generally of the slower type in Japan? I wonder if this problem has cropped up there?

I do not know, I thought so too. Maybe it's more open or maybe they get the class A battery cells too?

This site is unbelievable though. Say positive things about the car and everyone loves ya. Have a problem or two or question build quality and you're making it up or a troll or both.

I've never had a more unreliable car in 20 odd years. This car beats my old Rover for being unreliable and for acquainting me with the local recovery company.

I thought you had stated your Peugeot was better, so is the Rover better than the Peugeot? By the way i have a 30 year old 505, not that bad of a car, so not sure why you have had such bad luck?

No, the Peugoet was better. The reason I say that is that Peugeots have a reputation for being unreliable, so any car that is more unreliable is a bad thing. A Toyota that's worse than a Peugeot is a very bad thing!

The Rover was dreadful and the reason they went bust 10 years ago. You get the Range Rovers and they don't have a fabulous reputation for reliability. Well their small car division (which didn't sell in the US) was worse! :)

My Peugeot diesel whilst full of electrical gremlins never broke down. It did struggle to start one cold winter morning, though eventually it did. It had a habit of telling me my passenger airbag was faulty even though it wasn't, though spurious fault messages were had by other taxi colleagues who had the same model so perhaps it was 'characteristic' of that car! :) The Peugeot eventually ran to about 300,000 miles by the next owner before it got written off in a smash. I had a 2.0 petrol Ford Mondeo that had 290,000 miles and whilst being very 'loose' towards the end, it was a reliable car too.

Perhaps my expectations of the Prius were too high. Reading all the reports on here about how the car is bomb proof, never breaks down, runs to 500,000 miles without issue was the reason? I take such comments with a pinch of salt and hoped I'd get a good 200,000 out of it with minimal problems, but I'm only at 79,000 and had no end of trouble. A lot of bad luck - apparently. :cautious: hmmm

    Bad day, Grumpy ?

At worse one person on this site leaned on the wrong side towards you. Keep some perspective towards PC. I would be aggravated with your car too. Are the repairs under warranty ?

    Grumpy by name..... :)

If only it were one person!

And no, the repairs are not under warranty of late. As mentioned previously, the original gen3 Prius sold here from June 2009 - June 2010 only got a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty. One wonders if Toyota knew something.

    lol funny.

    They're built in Japan.

Many Japanese manufacturers use the UK as a manufacturing base and the quality is the best. So good that the UK built vehicles are sold in Japan. The days of crap British cars are over, mainly because crap British management and communist Unions went the way of the Dodo.

You may have the lemon of the lot, but disparate systems failing is hard to reconcile with bad luck. Conditions ? Driver ?

I really don't know. Unless you say otherwise I'll presume you keep up with a decent maintenance schedule and avoid potions or crap additives. Really too bad; I hope things go your way in the future.

I know, I wish it would have taken off better... If Honda pushed them a little more and people realized, then maybe. They're six now in my town. A white, light blue, gray, black, maroon, and my red one all together.

Uh ohh! What year / model did you have these problems? What exactly happened and what was Honda's approach?

    Oh nooo. ):
I hate that. That's the first time I've heard of this happening. I figured the Gen.III was as indestructible as the Gen.II.

So did I and it appears it isn't. Saying that, it might just be the 2009-June 2010 gen3's that are having 'issues'.

    UPDATE:
Took my Insight into Honda today. I have 1,860 miles on her now. I took it in because it was being a little hurky jerky when taking off on cold starts, not the engine so much as I was sure it was something to do with the transmission. Read some threads on InsightCentral.com and seen that others (pretty much all Insight's) have this issue. (If you consider it to be.) And seen where there could be an update applied to the Insight's computer to help. There was no updates, but they said they cleared the cars computers. They were very nice and listened to everything I had to say. It's honestly just me being spoiled by my smooth Prius, and it's really not THAT noticeable, but anyhow!
