You are right. I am an insurance underwriter. I can tell you that in my case it is at least $700 more than what I paid last year for my Versa. I live in British Columbia which is the the most expensive place for auto insurance in Canada.
You must have very basic coverage. I just received my renewal at just over $2,000 with ICBC and I am in my early 60's and I have never ever had an accident.
You are getting ripped off plain and simple, even if it is your only choice. Some of the US carriers have shown that it shouldn't cost anywhere near this to make them a profit.
