I was surprised to find that general aviation consumes on a par with autos per passenger-mile; I thought it was *much* more. Maybe it used to be. . Cars are still chewing on the order of a kilowatt per nice person-mile, or 28-ish effective mpg. . The really disturbing thing is how they think we've got *plenty* of oil left. I'm beginning to think that *nobody* really knows the right answer to that. . _H*
Most of the general aviation piston fleet gets 10 to 15 mpg. The *big* difference is in pollutant emissions, with no catalysts, leaded fuel, etc.
