Looking at a 2007 with backup camera but no navigation. Was thinking about getting a screen unit from a wrecking yard with navigation. Is navigation inside the unit, or is it somewhere in the car and it shows up on the screen? Will changing the screen unit (don't know the real Prius name for it) give the option? Thank you
Pretty sure navigation was a pod under the seat that year. You'd need both pieces, wiring between them and more. Not an easy thing. When you're dealing with one that old, the cheapest and most satisfying upgrade is an aftermarket head unit. Lets you skip all the way to current systems like CarPlay & Android Auto.
On a RHD car the box is under the passenger seat and needs an up to date map CD-ROM! You are better off with a TomTom on the windshield to be honest.
Totally agree, the stock Nav system is pathetic at best. When I travel a major expressway, it has me getting off at the next exit, turning left and has me get right back on. It does this for about 6 exits, then gives up. Does the same on another route I take, has me get off a major expressway onto a farm road that eventually turns into dirt, then has me make a left turn to the next intersection then head back to the expressway and get on. Plus using your phone, with Google Maps or Waze you get current road conditions. I have actually done both at the same time, and they both talk to you but sometimes with different directions, kind of like having the wife in the car
