Hi Berkley. Are you sure you and I are reading the same thread? It's not that we got bored with the idea in the last 3.5 years. It's that it's just . . . not . . . possible. Ask again in 2011.
So there's no turn beep on/off button in the 2005 like there is in the 2008? That sux :smash: One solution: Trade in for the 2008, but that may be an expensive fix. .
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the [on/off] button was introduced in 2006 when Toyota added a few other things like the side badging, hi-def MFD and the slightly-different taillights. And yeah, we '04/'05 drivers are still sucking it up with our beeping, lo-def MFD. (No offense to the true early adapters still driving the Gen Is.)
I fancy one that an earlier poster said about Darth Vader, but wasn't it ... "By your Command "...in a voice talking in a tin can , now that would be really cool and I'd change the screen all the time to listen to that.
On my 2008 MFD, under screen setting there is an option that says "beep off". Push it and there isn't any more beep. I don't like being "beepless in Iowa" so I turned it on again. It probably tells you this in the owners manual too.
Only by disconnecting the factory JBL amp under the passenger's seat. That's where the 3.02Khz beep originates from and goes out thru the rest of the audio system. I had a new stereo installed, disconnected the factory amp and haven't heard a freakin' beep in 3 years now. ah, the freedom from beepdom. Good luck. Ken
