Some people know how to use a computer to conform to forum etiquette, and some do not.

    I have service-related hearing impairment.
This does not give me the right to shout in places where it is more appropriate to keep quiet.
OTOH, people who are ignorant do not bother me particularly.
Humans are generally happier when they do not give very many other humans the power to irritate them.

I do not have a hearing aid (yet) but I've learned to speak softly in public and I often wear (Apple) ear buds that very effectively amplify my own voice (and others) so that I do not have the 'loud old man voice.'

    IYKYK.

I guess what happened here was a little more subtle. I wouldn't say it's inappropriate to use size=5 on PriusChat or that it's the equivalent of shouting or anything like that. It didn't irritate me. But I did read it as an expressive cue. Zeppo seems to take the position I should have known it was just so he could see it better, and so I should not have tried to read any expressive intent into it.

I'm not sure that really works, though ... the forum has these various knobs you can turn for font and size and color and all, and when you turn any of them away from the default, other people are going to be taking that as an expressive cue and looking to it for hints about your meaning. You might have some completely other reason for turning the knob, but I don't think it's realistic to fault people for trying to read meaning in it, because that's what communicating people do.

And there are likely settings in the browser and other apps to make it easier the read without making changes to what other users see on their end. For Windows go to settings>accessibility>text size , and that will let you change the default text size displayed. Should work with most programs.

And I merrily missed some of this drama as I long ago began using what Bob Wilson gentilly calls squelch.

I can't find any solutions to this problem, it involved CarPlay and my iPhone. Even new Tundra owners are complaining about this.

In my 2021 Prius, when she reads and lets me respond to texts, in CarPlay, she automatically turns the volume of the radio down.

But in my wife's 2024 Corolla, it never turns down the volume, making it very hard to hear her reading texts. It must be a setting in the car because the same works works in my car but not in the Corolla. The owner's manual doesn't seem to mention anything about this.

    Has anybody fixed this?

If the can's not swollen up like like a DNC pollster's forehead from all of the palm-slaps, then the stuff IN the can might still be good.

(...at least as good as it was before they sealed the can, that is.....)

We can several varieties of meats & the most recent are at least 3 years old. Would love to rotate more frequently - but then it kind of defeats the purpose of having large amounts of reserves for those "just in case moments" in addition to being a ton of work. Even when we do crack open any one of the varieties - they are still fresh. The lids have a certain ping when you tap on vacuum packed canning jars. Should any lid ever not have the Ping, much less if bulging outward, yeah into the trash.

I'm reading that as Oct 5th, 2022, though it could be Apr 10th, 2022.
It is far better than a code using X day of the year or quarter.

Yeah that's what I'm suspecting too. Some concensus, on a sensible, unambiguous format would be nice.

I don't think we have a consensus on what the date even be; best before, expiration, produced, etc.

Expry dates are somewhat worthless in some (many) cases.

Some of you may recall I posted about not being able to afford to replace expired epi pens, which are used to treat life-threatening allergic reactions

Went to see my doc for a routine visit awhile ago. He mentioned the pens. Told him can't afford them.

He said I should do a bit of web searching. He said he could not endorse info I found, but....nudge nudge, wink, wink.

Turns out a couple of reputable studies say they are still full-strengh seven to ten years after use by dates.

Since I'm older than Covid years old I remember food labels being a 'thing.'
The US Federal Standard is.............there IS NO standard except for baby formula.
(ALSO a Covid 'thing' here in the US.)

    According to AI:
Consumers can use their best judgment to determine if food is still safe and edible after the printed date, especially for shelf-stable items, by checking for signs of spoilage like mold or.........an off-odor. ALSO A COVID 'THING!'
My CFO is pretty good at labeling cans in 'geezer-font'
I use 3-5 years past the best-by-date and no bulging as a guide for 'foundlings' depending on how much I like what's inside.
    TRUST ME!
As a former sub driver I CAN confirm that Cans DO bulge when the stuff inside 'goes over.' ;)
Since you have to empty a can to dispose of them at sea, I can also tell you that the stuff inside a bulged can and WILL awaken even a 'covid nose.'

Dented cans are usually discarded but there 'is knowledge' in this subject to be had as well....

    Botulism is another issue altogether!
There's no way to tell if there is any botulism in canned food except by giving a sample to a local cat and waiting a day or two.

Just pulled a really large sized 1-year-old bag of corn tortilla chips out of our food storage supplies & it was aok. Ate the whole bag driving from Northwest Montana down to here in the Deep south.

We could certainly vent that commercially canned foods don’t openly disclose everything that consumers ought to know.

A bulging can is certainly !!! but not the full story.

Begin on market day. If you see a bulging can on the shelf, you are shopping at a store with untrained employees. Look for the exit sign.

Otherwise, examine each can you consider buying for bad-looking rim seal or corrosion around it. Buy those that look right.

Dented cans get attention and LCDHA link above has good pictures of the bads.

A minor dent away from seams is … minor. Readers’ understanding of PV=nRT (the gas law) comes to play. Can volume is reduced by dent, so internal pressure is higher. That is more likely to lead to seam failure if can is stored at high temperature. So, how shall you store that can?

After storage come usage so look at the can again. Obviously bulging, you already have instructions. Rim seal is still pretty, right? Can does not spurt when you open it. A dented can might spurt when opening, but the ice is getting a bit thin underfoot. Can you feel it?

Contents smell as you would expect.

Why does driving have to be so frustrating?

Today I was driving along at the posted speed limit and a guy in a commercial box truck comes up behind me and passes in a no passing zone. This kind of thing happens all the time. One time it was a tractor trailer. For going the speed limit I get honked at and obscene hand gestures along with a lot of shouting from others.

No one goes the speed limit.

No one cares about the safety of others.

Driving a car is a necessary evil. There is absolutely no joy in driving. And yet my job is a professional driver. This is miserable.

Well, except the splendid views I get driving around the Colorado mountains. I wouldn't give that up for a million dollars.
