YES, I take mostly short trips. but still...I may have to go out and "forget" that I've got the Pri in reverse and lie down in the driveway behind it... YES I HAVE READ ALL OF THE ARTICLES ABOUT DOING BETTER, SO DO NOT *EVEN THINK ABOUT* GOING THERE.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(brandon @ Jul 22 2006, 09:54 PM) </div> MOI? (twitch, stutter, twitch...)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(berylrb @ Jul 22 2006, 08:46 PM) </div> Nope, just going to visit a client one morning last winter during morning rush hour with an accident (I guess) at the bottom of the hill. By the time I got to the bottom traffic started to move smoothly. A few weeks ago I got gas at the station at the top of the hill, the car was warmed up from some errands earlier, and my MPG was 98 at the bottom of the hill (after 3 miles). It quickly dropped when I got on I-5. Short trips will kill your MPG, Rufaro, but you're probably still getting better milage than you ever have before. Maybe it's time for a road trip... I drove up to Seattle, about 200 miles, at the beginning of July and averaged 52.5 MPG both ways, but I cheated and drove the speed limit.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant @ Jul 22 2006, 10:54 PM) </div> 900 PLUS MILES OF ODO READING are roadtrip. Next frickin' question?
Remember, the fuel tank has a BLADDER and it flexes more in hot weather so the car will take more fuel on a hot day than a cool one and much less on a cold day. That is why LONG-TERM overall mileage is the ONLY way to get your true accurate mileage.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BVISAILMAN @ Jul 22 2006, 11:32 PM) </div> True accurate over time, not based on MFD is less than 40. Still.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant @ Jul 23 2006, 12:11 AM) </div> Oops...that was 900 frickin' miles of roadtrip w/ 1700 miles on odo... Consider me SEMI STFU'd.

I'm considering doing 'typical commutes of the bay', in the 30 minute range or higher just to prove that: •it's not the car •it's not the driver •it's not about reading threads ... •IT IS the commute! I feel your pain Rufaro! Of course most of us already know this, but some 'priuschatters' don't seem to get it by the smugness of their responses, which has annoyed me something fierce, (disclosure not thinking of anyone on this thread but others, yes indeed). And, of course, those same 'chatters' could simply try a under 10-15 minute commute to see how irresponsible some of their replies are, LOL! But keep in mind what Bill eluded too, 38 in a Prius is a D*** site better than 12 in a Jeep GCL, my old ride!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(triphop @ Jul 29 2006, 10:56 AM) </div> I see, LMHO!
Boy, has this thread gone far afield from my original post which make a joke of the fact I was getting terrible mileage using the Prius as a cooling chamber during my very hot summer job. The job is now over, so is my use of the car in this manner. 50 MPG Here I come!

The one that is usually meant is, in GREAT detail, HERE. (And my now second fave graphic, after triphop's, is this one.)
