    Hello
My car is hitting 125k miles soon. I’ve been doing maintenance on it every 5k miles for inspection and oil change if needed. I am looking for a place to do that other than the dealership in the Los Angeles area or an affordable no BS franchise that is available in California for oil change , etc ?

Contact Raj at Venice Hybrid Tech. He may not be as cheap as you'd like but he's most knowledgable Prius guy I have met in person. Visit him, talk to him, and he'll help you a lot even if you and he don't agree to have him service your car.

Don't waste your money unless you got warning lights... You can save yourself $800 by changing your own spark plugs, cleaning your throttle body and mass airflow sensor and EGR valve... Your car doesn't really need any other work than that at 125K miles. PriusChat and Youtube has all the info you need to do these simple tasks.

    Hybrid Pit in Buena Park.

If you search around the forum they've been mentioned a lot as well.

125k is running into thin ice on the head gasket front; get on EGR cleaning soon. See top two links in my signature; on a phone turn it landscape to see signatures.

I think Hybrid Pit Stop knows the score on that?

P0300 and P0301 may be along soon, say by 150K.

i have a mech at the mobil station up the street. he's fine for tires, oil, filters, etc.
when it comes to hybrid repairs, he starts bawling like a baby and i have to go to a dealer.
one thing you always want to do after an oil change is check the level before you leave, and make sure the drain plug is tight

Can one go to an oil change place for regular maintenance if no lights or issues are on?

one can go wherever one wants, but quick change oil places are the worst kind of monkees though.

Look up Dave Frost (Frost Automotive) in Culver City. They have a website and reviews on YELP. I personally have no experience with the shop but a friend who sold me his Prius has gone there for oil/filter, air filter and ATF change... and a CAT shield too.

Fluids and filter are really basic stuff but good/honest mech shops can be hard to find, including the dealer. At 50k, my friend's Toyota dealer recommended the following: 4 tires & Wheel Alignment, ATF change, HV battery cooling fan & filter Svcs, Intake Manifold Svcs, cabin filter.

How much do they want? $3300

I took my car to Dave Frost for an installation of a CAT shield. They also did a EGR cleaning, spark plugs, inverter fluid change, and oil change. Probably should have had them do the water pump but I guess that's for next time.

Good to hear. Do you know what they charge for that, and what was your impression; did they do a thorough job, know they’re stuff? I’ve got a thread on pro EGR cleaning, and it’s a short one so far. Thanks.
