Update: Did 5K on 5w-30 Castrol Magnatec Synthetic; engine didn't blow up. Biggest difference was it took a bit longer for the engine to reach operating temps where it shuts offs and a very slight hit to my MPG, which is likely from a combo of the thicker oil's parasitic drag on internal components and the engine running longer to reach temperature Engine noise was also reduced a bit; that part I liked. Went back to 0W-20 Castrol Magnatec Synthetic this change though.
I used the same oil on my last change and have experienced exactly the same thing. I will be going back to 0W-20 in about 2 thousand miles.
Update: Been running the 2012 on synthetic 5w30 (sometimes 0w30) since around 65K (iirc) with 5k oil change intervals and she's still purring with 115k miles on the clock. That's 185 kilometers to our Northern friends. The main difference is she eats about 0.6 quarts on the 30 weight compared to about 1.25 to 1.5 quarts with a 20 weight every 5k. I might switch to 0w20 when I do the 120k to 125k oil change just to confirm the higher oil consumption again.
