By going into the red by millions every year for years, thus the issue today.

Your employer prefunds the retirement benefits of future employees right now?

Those price hikes demanded from above, will put their prices far above the private competition. Causing the USPS to lose a big chunk of now-profitable business to said competition. They'll fall into the financial abyss even faster.

Walk South until you smell it, then West until you step in it.

Nope, but then we're no longer a monopoly....and they can (and ARE!) getting out of markets that are unprofitable.

The USPS has a formidable mission.
If you paste (or print) a first-class stamp and stick it on an envelope then it's their obligation to deliver that envelope anywhere in the US that has an 'address.'

    For the most part?
They do a very good job - but WE need to decide as a nation whether we want them to be dot.gov or dot.com.
It's fun for political hacks to use them as shuttlecock in pointless discussions but in the end if you're going to do important junk....like census or vote-harvest-by-mail....then one might dream of a day when the USPS isn't the butt of so many jokes concerning their CORE MISSION.

    ...just sayin. ;)

I know that, and you know that, but Someone with a lot more power than you and I apparently does not.

Even He knows it too, but is very jealous and needs to invent more levers to take down someone who really is a self-made gazillionaire, not an inherited one. And one with more zeros on the balance sheet.
