I have a 07 Prius and I want to update my nav cd to a newer version without paying $188+. I searched Ebay and found cd's listed for 2012's say they are not compatible with my '07. Can I use a newer version from say a '12 or '13 or do I have to buy a new one for my car?
The only legal DVDs are at the dealer. Each version of NAV uses a different DVD.04 to 06 will be different than07 to 09, Gen 3 will be different again, some times a DVD for a Three will be different than the DVD for a Five. In all likely hood the dealer should use your VIN to order a DVD for your car. Do not expect this level of dedication from ebay sellers.
That is correct. No. Yes, you have to buy one for your car, but you can buy an earlier map version date (but newer than what you already have) if you can find one. Bear in mind that that data on a disc is already 18 months to 2 years old by the time it is published.
So if I found someone with a 07 Prius that had a newer version from say 2012 they had laying around because they already updated, then I would be able to use that right? Being from the same year etc., don't they update the cd's every year?
Yes, that should work. And, yes, I believe an updated DVD is produce each year. Most people do not update often, if at all, due to the cost of the updates. Especially when compared to the cost and frequency of the likes of Tom Tom and Garmin.
That's what I was thinking. I have a Garmin but it's easier to use the nav that's built into the car you know. Thanks for he info people.
