I think you can with the right type of particle accelerator. But it ain't cheap:
    • Build and operate a particle accelerator that makes anti-electrons
    • Combine with the usual type of electrons
    • Deal with two energetic gamma photons (watch more Star Trek or study physics)

The 1.5-L super-lean-burn engine is still under development and the exact production-engine figure is unknown. I estimated 53% at one point by interpolating in their plots, but that’s probably not right. Nevertheless, I think we will see somewhere between 45–50%. With better aerodynamics and other enhancements as also described in their presentation for the 1.5-L engine, 70 mpg should be about right. Don’t forget that Toyota needs to come up with something revolutionary in the BEV age to keep the internal-combustion engine alive.

Gen 6 Prius engine will be a “game changer,” achieve a 53% thermal efficiency | PriusChat

Earlier was reading an article about Mississippi senate and house mistakenly passing a bill that axes income tax and instead raises sales and gas tax. Gas tax +15% Complete FUBAR.

Oh boy, can you say regressive.

Bob's solar and EV looking better all the time.

But not sure I'd want to live there.

The thermal efficiency is an inference from an unlabeled chart at Toyota's press event on the next gen engines.

Thread posted in #23 has the info we know about the engines. Some will have a turbo. A main thing about them is the size reduction by using short pistons. Allows designers to reduce hood and roof height for better aero, but they won't be torque monsters. ICE only is not planned.

That is an actual photo of the engine; the 2L IIRC

Thanks. But got a link to that unlabeled chart?

Any idea where the 70mpg number came from?

The unlabeled thermal-efficiency plot Toyota provided in the link I posted above is showing a 33% improvement over the previous engine, which would put the new fuel economy around 75 mpg, but there is no rigorous data, and the actual production number could be a lot less. In any case, as Toyota says, it will be a “game changer.”

Not likely. A game changer would be a BEV with 150 MPGe.
OK, maybe it is a game changer...but no one else is really playing this game

Very few can afford a Lucid, but I think most in new car market would/could consider a Toyota
