I want to install a new radio in my car so i have bluetooth, eta like all the newer cars. It's just a commuter can but i miss having all the fancy stuff. what is the best way of going about this. is it worth it to upgrade? think best buy knows how to install properly? What radio do you all suggest?
I have base model prius too.MFD 86110-47080 I was thinking of trying to upgrade to later MFD screen with the built in Bluetooth. 86110-47210 or 86110-47230 Not sure if this will work but can only try!! Havent managed to find much information out there does anyone have breakdown of the MFD part numbers and what differences they have. I would steer away from Japanese MFDs. Also, to get bluetooth you might consider leaving the MFD as is and replacing the radio unit with a newer double DIN unit with bluetooth and android auto and/or Apple CarPlay.
I recommend aftermarket stereos. We are getting great results from a Sony xav-ax100. I would not recommend Best Buy for installation. Seen too many problems. Nearly every town has a smalltime stereo/security dealer who is a lot more dependent on getting it right than BB.
The only reason for the japanese listed units is because here in New Zealand we have more JDM imports than NZ new models so its probably 1 in 10 that actually have display in english!! Opps my bad just noticed your in Wellington too
Just be aware that the BT radios from the factory for G2 Prius have BT for phone only, no audio streaming. You can get an aftermarket radio for your G2 that's light years ahead of any factory G2 radio for under $100.
Just good to be able to make use of built in unit. and for my other one convert display to English from Japanese
