All the major carriers did, but not all the minors. I was checking this when my dad was having phone problems just before he passed away in 2023. That minor-carrier pocket still served his 3G phone, I just had to take it to the local office where they updated some settings to match their latest configuration, which seemed to be changing frequently as newer equipment was continually being rolled out alongside the legacy equioment. No 3G local sunset date had then been announced, though customers who wanted to roam outside of that provider's service areas had to upgrade to at least 4G.

Checking online, I now see they finally announced their upcoming 3G shutdown:
"... announced on September 3, 2025, that they are sunsetting the legacy CDMA network and transitioning to exclusively utilizing Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services. They will decommission CMDA technology on sites in phases based on geographic regions. ..."
"National carriers discontinued CDMA services previously, so customers already utilize VoLTE services when using our national roaming partners..."

It may be the basic model hardware and design stays the same while the software and details vary. In the 4.5 era of the Rav4 hybrid, my 2019 and your 2025 are quite different. And then the model design changeover occurs in 2026.

I see software and details like display changing over the model year while the chassis and basic sheet metal and even the drive train remain the same.

Appreciate esteemed OP is just quoting the title of the article, but my first impression was Toyota's saying "from now on our cars will last longer than a decade". Come to think of it, the maintenance schedule wraps up at 10 years, lol.

Worse than that based on the title alone
"...Will Now Last for Almost a Decade"

The latest Savagegeese video makes the argument we are already there and even Lexus is really not much different than Toyota. Mostly software and screen differences.

Here's the thought that will hopefully kill this ridiculous topic. Toyota used to advertise no one wants Electric cars. How many millions are on the road worldwide now? Toyota also used to boast how many jillians of hydrogen cars they would have on the road by now.
When did so many here forget that if their lips are moving - you know they are _ _ _ _ _ _

Like everything else in life; there needs to be balance. It's kinda like when you were little and didn't know you were making a mess and your parents started making you clean-up after yourself. You started to do things differently, to reduce the mess you were creating - because you knew you'd have to sooner or later clean it up. Unfortunately; some adults never learned that lesson. They're also likely to say, 'that's not my job' too.
It was EPA regulations that cleaned our air and drinking water that industries polluted. These are the same people that claim they can't make money because of regulations.:(
Yes; they are lawyers or car salesmen.......:p:D:LOL::ROFLMAO::cool::whistle: Most politicians are lawyers; so draw your own conclusions.....

Can I use the quoted article for haggling the price down?

"Toyota said their cars last only 9 years, I'm not paying more than half of the MSRP for a 4.5-year-old Toyota."

I mean, we already have an example with Entune.

All those stock prices, game scores, movie ticket buying, OpenTable reservation making features are all disabled, right?

I'm not sure what Entune is.

Looking it up on Google it looks like what my Avalon has, an app based interface on the infotainment screen. But then again, it doesn't work on my Avalon. I'm not sure if that's because it was discontinued or because my Avalon's infotainment system is glitching out.

Now I'm reading there's a Toyota app that replaced it. I'm going to have to read some more as I had no idea that this was even a thing. Now I have a lot of questions. Does this Toyota app install on the car? Or is it for phones? Does it cost money? How much? Will it fix my infotainment system? Did I have Entune all this time and not know what it was?

Anywho. What is the point you were making about Entune? Is it good news or bad news? I guess I'm out of the loop on that one.

Story in the local paper today says 4 of 14 production lines in NC battery plant now running and they have been shipping batteries for production vehicles since spring.

Everything you said is exactly the point I was making lol.

It’s all shiny and new for the first owner, maybe second (if it was a 3-year lease) but after 5-7 years, there’ll be no support. So someone like you who bought the car would have no idea it existed because the app doesn’t exist any more and the service is no longer supported. (And anything on 4G will be eventually be deprecated like OnStar vehicles and early Model Ses that were on 3G). Anything that relies on an external server or 3rd party has a limited lifespan.

Digital key? Great. Pay up after the free trial
Remote lock/unlock/start? Pay up after free trial
Navigation? Toyota’s tried that before with Scout GPS and currently with cloud-based navigation
    Traffic Jam Assist? Subscription too.

    That is a LOL!!! :ROFLMAO:

Except the fact that a lot of my infotainment system doesn't work.

I always wondered how the apps like iHeart Radio were supposed to work.

Now a lot of things don't work. Navagation is there but doesn't work. The radio apps I've metioned. And then Bluetooth and USB have stopped working. Sounds like a great idea to keep making cars like this!

Yeah because Toyota created this software called Entune that used “apps”. So if there’s no Entune, well the apps don’t work.

At least now with cars using Google Android Automotive, there is some hope for a longer lifespan since Google will be around for a lot longer than an in-house developed program.

I can’t remember what navigation the 2013 Avalon has. I thought it was built-in?

Nice. 2026 RAV4 is their first take at a software-defined vehicle. It is very rudimentary, with only the multimedia and TSS being software-defined. However, they aim to developed fully software-defined vehicles by next decade or so. Let’s see how software-defined Gen 6 Prius will be.

They will also transition to Nvidia automatic driving suite by then. TSS 4.0 on the new RAV4 is only a minor update on TSS 3.0, as it doesn’t use the Nvidia hardware.

Ok, so it seems to be built in. But it is glitched out. You can't find any address, that doesn't work. The only way to set a destination is to zoom out, then zoom in to you destination and touch the point you want to go to and hit the "go here" button. But as soon as you turn off the car it forgets where you were going, so you have to zoom back out, then zoom back in.

Seeing how Bluetooth and USB stopped working and things in the gauge cluster aren't working as intended I believe this is a glitch that doesn't have anything to do with Entune. But yes, all those other apps are there and there's no way for me to use them.
