Sorry, he is one of the more credible sources but tends to be long with a lot of detail.

Although Lucid has some credibility, I don’t trust them for some engineering feelings. Lucid is a hair too glib for me.

Tesla can never be Level 4 because it lacks lidar and radar. There are Level 4 cars already (Waymo), even though they are restricted to lower speeds.

You are also forgetting that Nvidia (and Google in the case of Waymo) are far more skilled than Tesla in AI.

And you trust Tesla’s EPA fuel-efficiency numbers, which have been reported to be false all over the news by many news sources. LOL Their numbers wildly change with model year, too.

Is there a law or regulation that requires lidar and radar?

    How is AI skill measured?

Only those numbers I can test with my card and benchmarks. So far I am beating Tesla EPA numbers with better tires and rims. My BMW matches the EPA numbers with stock rims and tires.

In the early days the early adopters were teaching the newbies. What happened to the brand enthusiasm?

First time I ever had a form of self driving (TSS 2.5) (my very first drive in the vehicle) I used it without a single lesson for hours on end. Just find a interstate and screw around until you understand how the controls really work. If you can't do that, maybe you shouldn't be using such things.

You are drinking the Tesla Kool-Aid. There are a lot more and bigger players now. I hope you are not claiming that Tesla is belter in AI than Nvidia. Lidar 3D mapping combined with cameras work much better than cameras alone, which cannot see well in the dark, rain, etc.

BEV fuel economy depends on the speed. I can easily get over 200 mpge in my Gen 4 Prius Prime PHEV.

There is efficiency in an engineering sense. To be admired. But there is efficiency in the use of the purchasers investment in the car. My car cost half as much. Leaving me with half invested in a market that has yielded enough to buy the Lucid. OK, I have a 5 year old car with 43k miles on it but it has been maintained so I'll keep it for a few more years. Selling now it would have depreciated less than $10k. It meets my needs. Wants, no not so much. But I've been lucky enough to have owned 5 cars that met my wants. Don't need to do that again.

It was my frustration with TSSP (previously described) that led to trading in my 2017 Prius Prime for a 2019 Tesla Model 3. Within 30 days, AutoPilot saved my family from a medical event.

Can I test drive their products? My 2019 Tesla Model 3 with Full Self Driving 12.6.4 is parked on my driveway, Who would you recommend I test against it?

My 2019 Tesla Model 3 has 167,206 miles after 6 years of service. The last time Tesla offered a trade-in,, $8,500, but it is not for sale.

My plan is to replace the 2017 BMW i3-REx with a used 2024 Tesla Model 3 to gain: (1) HW 4.0 and, (2) LiFePO battery chemistry. I expect to pay about $20-22 k in January 2026. AutoPilot will be adequate for its use.

    • 2003 Prius - fine small sedan went over 175,000 miles before the unrepairable part broke.
    • 2010 Prius - fixed the latent design problem of the 2003 Prius but TSSP was over priced.
    • 2017 Prius Prime - had too many latent design effects without a significant efficiency improvement. TSSP was especially disappointing.
Toyota engineering "marched in place" and made a product inferior to the 2014 BMW i3-REx I'd bought as backup. The 2017 Prius Prime failings were evident in the 3 year older, 2014 BMW product. I replaced it with a 2017 BMW i3-REx which I will convert to a 2024 Tesla Model 3.
