<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(roger\";p=\"45174)</div> I agree with Evan on this, it doesn't matter what you physically do to get the parking pawl engaged. And I agree with you on this: The use of the word 'Good' in this context is not 'Proper', but is should be.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(roger\";p=\"45174)</div> I agree that the latter is more clear and precise, but the former is just as proper and accurate.
This thread reminds me of the first time that I ever drove in the UK. Not only did I have to get accustomed to driving on the other side of the road, I was constantly warned to mind the soft verges on the dual carriageways and to beware of articulated lorries. Then there were the bonnets, wings and boots on the cars. I could go on and on and on. I the US we shift into any gear, including Park, regardless of the physical methodology. I still remember the push button automatic transmissions of the early 60s Chrysler Corporation products. We shifted, not engaged, into the various gears, even though it was done by pushing buttons (and sliding a lever for Park).
Well, the Prius changes alot of terminalogy if we are to be literally correct. We don't have a key, but a FOB. Not an igition, but a slot. We don't even need that with SKS. It's not a gas pedal, but an accelerator. No guarantee that when we push it, it will use up any more gas (at least at that moment). We don't start the car or crank the engine, but turn it on. Toyota themselves calls the parking mechanism a shifter however. Kind of strange, as that would make you think it does more than parking, as most transmissions have other shift modes than just park.
Interestingly enough, my car puts out the same messages as Roger's. I tried the "In Drive, foot on brake, open door" test this morning and got this message: "Please press P to engage park" The second message is the same as Evan posted earlier. Either I've been transported to Oz (I don't remember any tornados) or they updated the text in more recent cars.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bruceha_2000\";p=\"45326)</div> Hmmm, makes me wonder what else has changed...certainly that's a tiny thing, but if it's a software deal and it could install the Energy/Consumption toggle via the steering wheel with a simple 'flash' I'd sure go for that.
I got the "Please press P to engage park" message, this morning, when I opened the door, while in neutral, to see how close to a wall was the front end of the car (I still have trouble judging that distance). 2005 BC
that is all i get, nothing about discharging batteries though. geeus...never thought i'd see the day when we need to start posting version checks for our cars just to be on the same page.
