Prius Runs Amok After Stalling, Hits Tow Truck

    Yep, mine does that too if I don't engage the parking brake while in Park. There is about 2-4 inches of play either forward or backward. Remember the Prius motor, like most front wheel drive cars, is transverse mounted.

    So the rocking motion of starting/stopping is fore/aft and not side to side like in a RWD car or pickup.

    Hope you didn't scare the Missus.

    The same thing will happen with a normal car. If I park my Camry and leave the parking brake off, the moment I lift my foot off the brake pedal, the car will rock back and forward.

    yep, any chain driven normal car, right? Thats one of the advantages of belts...

    While still in my garage my 05 would not power down or go into gear.
