Your initial investment may be that much.
Long term it may be more.
If possible you may want to order a couple of extra components at the time of the initial purchase, that way you'll be ready when something fails.

Thanks for info. Regarding KIT, they have only 1 on stock and ordering anything else as another parts from supply US is quite though, they react very slowly, communication is very weak. So If you tell me, that I will soon need any other parts as replacement and will need to order it from US, than it really is not worth. It is enough money to be reliable product which will not go broken for few years, that is what I thought :)

there have been a few installs here. some good, some bad, definitely not guaranteed. i don't recall anyone having a completely successful install, and reporting no problems over the long run. but there's a risk to everything i suppose.

Finaly, price for battery needed for 7kW - its 154pcs you need for 19EUR/each = 2926 EUR + some other small stuff for 100 EUR. So total cost of reworking Prius to Prius plug-in 7kW /range 37miles = 47km/ is 6986 EUR + installation preagreeded for 100 EUR = 7086 EUR. What do you think? I think answer is quite clear, not worth at all ;-(

Realisticly, my car 12k. Used solid PIP 15k EUR. 3k+1k paper and transport cost = 4k EUR difference between my Prius and used PIP 1st gen. With KIT upgrade range is equal to new Prime and not 1st gen PIP.

In the USA conversion only makes sense in Colorado due to government incentives ($6000 credit)

So will be watching good offers for PIP and will see. Although good range from KIT, those guys or in case of service needed will be pain. For PIP cons, Toyota will be here for sure and its more safe. But I do not like that PIP does not have reserve tyre in the back :) everything else, I like about them.

that is a good point and + for KIT, it is not where reserve is. So you can fully use your reserve tyre where it is now. Kit is installed above reserve/its that smaller place which is hiden under main back area/even 10kW will fill exactly there/. So you have all your main area fully free for your bags etc.

that's amazing. how can they fit that much battery, and toyota couldn't fit 4kw?

how do you get to the reserve tyre under the battery?

It allows access to the spare tire. The spare tire is under the battery pack. Simply unplug the wires and lift the battery modules out of the way. [IMG]

yes, tyre is on deck in hatch. no good if you're filling with other things. my children are gone.:)

prime would be even worse for you. maybe 7,000 pounds is sounding more worthwhile?

Wow there is 3-ft3 space in that Gen3 under-floor space.
Hard to believe you can get 10 kwhr in 3-ft3, also so light you can lift it.
Prius hybrid pack about 100-lbs at 1.x kwhr.
But I assume Toyota design approach is much more robust and heavy duty.

As far as PiP, you can stand spare tire vertically in rear cubby space under floor (1-ft3) and maybe get stroller in there.

Thanks. Your suggestion are right for 10kW. Only 7kWs and less are not touching spare tire place ;)
